It will help you to read the editorial guidelines (they're only 1 page).

Self-serving links are allowed in the resource-box only.

(I'm guessing that when you say "Ezine" you mean the article directory called "Ezine Articles"? Please excuse me if I guessed wrong!).

They don't want you spamming the article with a bunch of self-serving links, so they reserve your linking permissions to a couple of links in the resource box only. That way you have all that much more incentive to write a great article that people will read all the way through and want to learn more about in your bio box. If they let you put all the links you want in the text, you might not be as inclined to offer value. That's the way I've seen it on other sites that do allow this, anyway.

You have to go with self serving links in your resource box only.

Additionally, the number of words in your link is controlled by the number of words in the article.....As an example, if you have only written a 300 word article, you'll only be able to use 3 words in your anchor text.

Which is just of many reasons you should write longer articles...

Could he use a link cloaker? I saw a guy that used an affiliate link in his last paragraph (no other links in the article) but it was cloaked and went right to the affiliate site.

All of his articles were like that and he had a ton of articles...one of the super dudes so it was nothing new.

Write longer articles, write informative articles. Think about who you want to help before you start. EZA is very strict, but can be used. It is NOT a place for spam or lousy articles.

All that being said, if you're looking to post articles on a website and link anchor text within the article body, head over to ArticlesBase.com. They're just as good in my opinion - and sometimes better - than Ezine as far as my traffic is concerned, and they allow up to three links within the article body and two links in the resource box.

But I still recommend submitting long, quality articles, as they do go through an approval process prior to publishing.

Because Ezine wants all links above the fold to put adsense ads.

If your text had links in it, it might distract from the larger amount of text contained on the sides of the article.

Good point, Caleb. We wouldn't want Ezine missing out on thousands of ad clicks, would we?

I might also mention that GoArticles.com also allows in-text linking, but the links have to be several paragraphs down the article, or you'll get a warning message on the page saying the link is situated too high.

Yes, Ezine Article Directory needs all the clicks it can get.

Which reminds me, isn't there an ad directory out there?

ArticlesBase is nofollow. A better choice perhaps (and one that doesn't limit you to a set number of submissions per day, AND is a PR6, as well as dofollow) is ideamarketers.

That's true, and something to keep in mind when submitting for backlinks only, but as far as visitors reading the article, clicking through to the page and finally purchasing, I've actually had a better success rate with Articles Base than with Ezine in certain niches (not all).

But thanks for the ideamarketers suggestion. I'm submitting articles as I speak, so I'll check that one out.

Okay, In Ezine you don't have to put anchor text but your link will be put in the resource box. Just study how to do it. I give you already the tip.

You can have 1 self serving link below the fold and 1 link in your Author Resource box, and both can be anchor text. Anything I submit is more than 400 words, and usually one or two word anchor text, occasionally 3 words.

You can have an anchored link in the body of the article if it is below the fold.

    Guys,

What is "above/below the fold"? I realize it's a basic question but I read it for the first time yesterday and have never heard it before that.

    Thanks for helping a rookie.

Above the fold makes reference to everything you see on the screen before having to scroll down.

The fold is basically about half of the article. They only allow anchored links in the lower half.

It's a must to read the Ezine article guidelines. Well worth knowing what they expect and to be up on all the rules for you to move forward.

You're permitted to add links in the resource window, but my suggestion is to know the game plan for Ezine to avoid rejected articles and time-wasting. : )
