If I have listed my URL in a directory - can I go back and list the pages one by one?

I like the idea of listing my website(s) in online directories, and I do it quite a lot, but lately I have been growing one or two of my websites and wondered what would happen if I went back to my directory list and re-listed the pages that I have optimized for a specific keyword.
Would I get slapped by the directory?
Would I get slapped by the search engines?
You see half the time I would rather get back-links to a page that I have been targeting a long tailed keyword with, and feel that if I could get about 200 back links to that specific page then I would rank better for the page, and by default rank better for the site overall.
I am not to keen on going out there and chasing down individual back-links one by one for every page that I publish.

When you answer please add if your answer is based on your opinion or experience.

I would really be happy to know this answer, as I would then rush off and list all my pages one by one in a lot of directories.

Thanks guys!
Rob

  • A lot of directories do not allow this practice of putting in anything except the main URL of your site.

I suspect there are some that do, but I have never seen one. It is probably something that would be covered in the TOS, though

    • LOL! I ran a directory, then had to obliterate it because people were
doing exactly what you propose. Put a different page in all categories.

Directories are very low-low level links. I would not even bother.
