I have found this 27k exact match .net domain which expired 7 weeks ago, but GoDaddy and other hosting companies still say the domainname is taken.

When I run the whois I see it's expired 7 weeks ago, but updated 1.5 weeks ago.

Now I read about something about being able to put .net domains in quarantine mode, meaning you have 30 days after the expiration date to get it back if you want, before someone else can register it.

But since it was last updated 1.5 week ago, 1.5 month after expiration, does this mean I can't register it until March 13th (or the original owner renews it of course)? Does somebody know how this works?

If it is taken it is taken. Where did you see that it expired 7 weeks ago? Perhaps someone just snapped it up quick.

Normally there is a 75 day period between the expiration date and actual availability, you will see whois status changes along the way including reclamationperiod? and pendingDelete.

There are "services" like snapnames that grab up desirable names within seconds of it's status change, you can reserve a name with snapnames for $60.
