I saw this link posted in Matt Cutts' twitter stream.

Google Farmer Update: Quest for Quality - SEO-Blog

I haven't looked at all the metrics, but apparently Ezine was the 2nd biggest loser. Other 'big' sites such as wisegeek, hubpages, buzzle, articlebase, and business.com were affected. They are calling this the Farmer Update.

Great. It appears that all Google updates from here on in are going to be named, just like Hurricanes.

  • interesting, but i would find a "biggest winners" list WAY more interesting.

By the way..my articles on EZA and AB are still ranking great. Actually i just boosted them up a little more.

I think whining about this so called hit is not constructive - article marketing still works, articles are STILL ranking, are still giving backlinks...and my web sites themselves gaining rank, probably now even more. Fine with me if the spammer sites are dropping

No reason whatsoever to complain here.
  • I love the fact they are now the web police.

Wonder when they'll hit the biggest video sites... including Youtube.

    • You know who OWNS youtube, right?

    • I doubt they'll hit YouTube.. it's one of their own sites...
  • Interesting. I just sent it to the big man @ Mahalo to ask the validity.

    • He confirmed it. Just saying they're putting their heads down and putting their content experts into overdrive.
  • My high-quality blog lost 700 visitors per day. My auto blog that scrapes content gained 100 visit per day.

The only thing I've used article marketing for was to build backlinks with keywords. Not sure why my main blog took such a big hit. I'm afraid to link build it now, and I'm afraid to add more unique high-quality content.

    • I think the biggest threat is going to be the add on for chrome that lets you block sites from appearing in the results. Google then gets feedback and if there are enough blocks they say'll they'll investigate and take action..

Time to hire some fiverr gigs and get people blocking my rivals

    • Why? Ignore google for a bit, build links to your site in places you believe people will gain from knowing about your site.

People seem to focus on building only for search engines, build it for the users and you will never have to worry about google taking away your living!
  • Fantastic post with an article! Real case nowadays, thanks.

In my observation, the farms will analyze the changes and find the way to get back, again ;-)

    • It will be interesting to see what they do to get back on top. Maybe find some way of enforcing unique articles and making articles we write even harder to publish on their sites!
