What Happened to All the ClickBank/AdWords ads?

I'm not sure if this has been asked before - but I searched for some articles on Google and couldn't find anything.

Anyway, about a year ago whenever you searched for the name of a ClickBank product (among others, but mainly CB) on Google there would be a huge load of PPC ads with titles like "Product Name Scam", "Product Name Review" and "Don't Buy Product Name Yet", etc.

For a while though, I've notice a decline and now for many products there are no ads at all. Just type in 'legit online jobs' or 'no nonsense muscle building' (both still popular products on CB) and there are no PPC ads.

Has anyone else noticed this? Does anyone know why they've all gone?

I promoted a few CB products like this a few years ago, and did actually make sales (although the profits were low because the CPC was so high), so It must have been working for some people - they just seem to have given up...

If anyone knows, I'd be grateful if they'd let me know too!

Don't know but seems that i'm not getting much sales with clickbank these days. I'm doing seo and had good rankings (1-5 page1) for targeted terms (product name, review etc). This could be a reason some are not spending on ppc for these terms?

I do hope it's just temporary and purchasers are just holding off buying for some odd reason now.

Were these sites affected by Google's implementation of its new algorithm??

I'm not sure, but I would have thought some would have found a way around it. But there seem to be none left in many cases...

I'm really curious about what happened:confused:

Can't remember exactly how long ago it was, but it happened last year. Google reduced the quality score for all keywords for these products, so that ads stopped running. Most of us received an email from google saying our accounts were suspended. Since then it's pretty much impossible to run an adwords campaign to drive traffic to an affiliate site that doesn't do much besides link to a vendor site.

[Edited to add] You might try googling for Clickbank Google slap, to learn more.

Thanks - I've done some searching on this just now.

Is it still possible to build a landing page promoting a ClickBank product - or is that dead too now? It seems that both the direct linkers and those who built landing pages have been wiped out from the look of things, but there must be a way around it - to still promote a CB product with a review site without getting Google slapped? If anyone knows, I'd be grateful for their advice!!

Well, I'll tell you, I had good content sites with lots of info - and then a sign-up box to capture names and a few affiliate links. I hadn't run an Adwords ad for a YEAR, and just a few months ago got banned from Adwords and told to fix up my old sites that I had advertised to a year ago. I didn't even have a few of them anymore, but I couldn't (can't) get un-banned. . .

According to Google's Webmaster Guidelines, here are two quality guidelines that, if not adhered to, could result in de-indexing of your site:

AdWords' rules change and get more stricter. People get penalized/banned and quit.

Most of those sites were thin and low quality affiliate sites. Google has eliminated virtually all of the crap sites from it's AdWords program. For me, that's good because I am consistently getting clicks below $0.10 (many that are much lower) for my Amazon affiliate pages.

Does anyone think or know if it's still possible to get an affiliate product review or testimonial site through Google's QS and moderators now - if it has original content and privacy policy, etc.?

Just wondering, because it could be quite uncompetitive now for anyone who can get a site approved and maintain a good QS...

My sites get approved and most of my QS are 6+ with many 7+.

Completely untrue. I have no problems getting my affiliate sites approved. You just need to add value. Many affiliate marketers promote nothing but bridge pages and then complain when Google slaps them.

I had as many as 70 ad groups running as recently as 3 days ago to test an Amazon affiliate site of mine. Virtually every QS was 6 or above and most were 7 or above.

yes it would be possible but in 99.9% of cases i would not bother promoting cb with adwords regadless of what you build most of the cb sites are rubbish built or do not meet G terms and will fall over anyway

that is no guarantee your account will not be suspended, you can be running pages of q10 scores and still cop a lifetime suspension

I agree. However, you missed my mention of the fact that I've had discussions with the AdWords team about what I needed to add to my sites to make them compliant.

AdWords staff (humans) have looked at my sites and given the green-light.

Unless I want to put my tinfoil hat on, I'd be very surprised if I were to receive a ban since I have the emails from the AdWords team giving their recommendations and blessings.

I'm sure your accounts are fine and the ref was in relation to people in general thinking that a high quality score meant that they were safe, which is not true, Sorry for any confusion in regards your post / statement and being unclear in my reply.

Oh, yeah. I totally agree. I should probably have been more clear as well.

QS is just a reflection of how targeted your keywords/landing pages are and how good your CTR is. That can all be fantastic even though I'm promoting something clearly against TOS. Eventually, they would pull the plug.

I have been hearing more and more from people that Google has slammed the door in their face.

I guess Google forgets that it was the affiliate marketers that help make Adwords what it is today.

I disagree. As a matter of fact, I just exchanged emails with the AdWords team this morning about a site I'm bringing online. I've always found them more than helpful and I've made it clear that I am building affiliate sites.

Well you're very lucky you didn't get the "sorry there's nothing we can do, we can't help you" message.

That's what I got told many times when I tried to ask what they wanted. They told me never to contact them ever again.

I got quite the opposite actually. I've found the AdWords team to be nothing but helpful whenever I have questions about why a page or site is not approved.

Google must be receiving some kind of incentive from big companies so that they don't let the small affiliate advertiser earn money.

Listen to yourself. That's not the case at all. Why would they do that? That makes absolutely no sense.

The problem is that most "little guys" don't know what they are doing nor do many of them bother to read TOS. It's really as simple as that.

Aha. You wouldn't believe the amount ads that are direct linking to ClickBank salespages nowadays.

If you're in the US, just Google some very popular ClickBank product names and you'll see.

Dang. These people must have changed the landing page after the ad approval.
