I've got analytics on my site and I'm getting a bounce rate of about 50%. Is this hurting me? (I think this is due to things like stumbleupon).

nope . its good thing . it means your visitors are increasing .

Google analytics is a wonderfull free tool to analyze your visitors, refering sites, visitors country , visiting times.

if you use it with logic you will found the ways to promote your site. It will exactly tell you which of your work giving you the results.

That is an excellent bounce rate - now go pat yourself on the back for a job well done.

Do some more Googling on bounce rate. You will see that you are doing really well.

My highest ranking blog, that makes the most money, has a bounce rate worse than that.

That's not a bad bounce rate at all. One of my sites gets a bounce rate of about 29%, but it's also been around for a couple of years.

A 50% bounce rate is good.

A 2 page site with a 94% bounce rate can also be good. That means, one page sales letter, 2nd page buy page...6% are buying. Don't get distracted with bounce rate.

Ok i am not quite sure why most of you guys say it is good coz i think a bounce rate of 50% is something you should worry about.

Google Analytic specialist Avinash Kaushik has stated: "My own personal observation is that it is really hard to get a bounce rate under 20%, anything over 35% is cause for concern, 50% (above) is worrying. I stress that this is my personal analysis ~ wikipedia.

With moniker "Google Analytic Specialist" you place your tongue firmly in your cheek before reading.

Nothing to worry about. The dude is a wind-bag.

I get it that when I see someone claiming to be an expert in SEO and want to fill a boot with puke.
