Hey everyone,

can anybody tell, how images are read by search engines?
#search engine optimization #image #seo
  • I always wondered that myself but was too afraid to ask.
  • SE's read the alt text to determine what the image is, thus you always want your keyword phrase in the alt text.
  • through their alt image tags, I guess so

    • Google bot cant read the thing in the image. It index image just by its name or with relevant text nearer to image..

if you search for any image in google images you will found most of the first result index images with image title. so choose image title accordingly

      regards
  • Search Engines would read the image with it's alt text. So you want to provide the exact caption of the image as the alt text.

For image optimization you can provide your keywords as the alt text.

  • I wouldn't abuse the alt text - try to include your keyword AND describe the pic. You can put your keyword in the title of your image and more importantly (imho) in the file name. Do an image search right now, I guarantee you that the top image(s) have their keyword in the file name.

This is how I rank my images - title, alt text, and file name. Usually the keywords I am using aren't generally searched for with an image search so the competition is low and I grab the #1 position and the little scraps of traffic that come with it.
