Vary your link sources, don't over-do it to start with and be consistent.

Basically keeping it fairly natural usually works fine but anything like suddenly getting 100 forum profile links is likely to lead to problems following recent algorithm updates.

Opinions do vary a lot though.

make sure you dont leave any footprints if you promoting many websites.

Varying your link source is a good plan but if your aiming for a competitive keyword then get some relevant quality links.

The exact same as it was before the algo change - mostly contextual links from relevant content and high-PR forum profile links, with some other secret sauce methods thrown in.

Since I never relied much on article directories, and always tried to build less, but more quality links, I don't think I'll change stuff here much.

I can't recommend you one service or another, but what you should look for when choosing one, is that they must have reviews. That's why services like fiverr, or warrior forum section is great for this. Check when the most recent review is made, especially when looking on fiverr. People sometimes abandon their gigs on fiverr, this is not a big concern on WF, but still, look for a recent user response. Read them and decide whether you like what do you see.

The best strategy would be to try and get as many high quality links as you can. Links on relevant pages, that rank on google for similar keywords - that's high quality.

Building web 2.0 properties (squidoo, hubpages, etc) for backlinking is great, but it takes time - because these pages have to rank too, and only then their backlink will start to carry some weight. When the page is just built, the backlink is very weak, so to say. But it gains strenght over time.

Blog commenting - a good thing if done right. I'm a fan of natural, meaningful blog comments on relevant blogs, which can land you a guest article really soon - and that's one more quality link right there.

Not a great fan of profile links/blog comment spam, but they also have their uses, just don't overdo it - I think it is best that first you do the quality linking, and then you can throw in a couple of these.

If you start by blasting profile links/blog comment spam, you might get penalized by G.

I'm into all authority backlinks now, I stopped messing with everything else (profiles, etc...).

It's not that profiles don't work, it's just easier & faster to rank a new page with a single authority backlink.

PS, has nothing to do with any G update.

        Its all about diversity.

Don't blast thousands of links to a site quickly either, its gunna have a bad effect in the long run. Stick with article submission (yes, even after the change!) blog commenting on high pr blogs, forum links, social bookmarking.

cba to do this yourself? There's plenty of people that with for a fee on this forum and other places.

My strategy from now on will be mostly:

        Guest Blogging
        Article Marketing

        And a little:

        Web 2.0
        Blog commenting
        Forum commenting

        Hopefully outsourcing the later.

The worst thing is if you say "article marketing is dead" and stop it because you read somewhere on the forum that someone thinks article marketing is dead

(Or whatever is supposed to be "dead" and stop doing it based on assumptions from people)

The basics of good backlink building remain true. If I had a brand new site, I would write some articles, participate in relelvent forums, comment on relevent blogs, seek guest blogging oppurtunities, list myself in a quality directory or two, get reviewed on review blogs, etc.
With the addition of social ranking factors I would also be sure to make a Facebook fan page, start a twitter account, create spaces on sites like tumblr, list my website as my employer on a linkdin page, etc.

I don't think backlinking strategy should change at all after the last update. I don't think it is a big deal.

I never do profiles really... Articles, press releases, blog comments, blogs, forum posts, web 2.0...

Google is now battling with spammers. After Google updates last February 2011, lots of sites dropped rankings which affected their traffic as well. For now, I am linkbuilding in moderation. I don't do the usual mass linkbuilding. Also, I am doing a link wheel strategy.

I will stick with getting backlinks by distributing articles to blog networks. The latest Google update did not have any negative effects on rankings for the sites I track. In fact, most of them increased.

I like article distribution as a base for backlinks because I cannot imagine any change that Google could make that would devalue these links from individual blogs in one fell swoop. Since they're individually owned, the blogs have a wide variety of designs, hosting, IP addresses, etc.

In comparison, profile links, for example, are terrifying to me. It seems Google could quite easily devalue profile pages from popular forum platforms and POOF - there goes your backlinks and rankings.

You should always have multiple sources of links so using article distribution as a base, I add on bookmarking, press releases and some blog comments as well.

How does Gxxgle distinguish company paid back links from natural back links? Please submit all your ideas.

Is it possible for them to peer into the I.P. of the post and if they can recognize the I.P. of a company who does these links then Gxxgle would disregard those back links?

xx was used instead of oo to keep this from coming up in search results from either the Big G or those who type in the letters "g", "o", "o", "g", "l", "e".

      shhhhhhhhhh !!!!

P.S. Do not choose fiverr gigs by the amount of rah rah ratings. I have never seen a more classic example of lemmings running off a cliff with everyone running after them. The rah rah ratings are worthless. You may have to get your money back from a few before you find a good one on fiverr.

The best backlinking strategy is to mix it up as much as possible. Jot down every link building method you can think of and try to focus on a handful each day, varying what you do each day.

Everybody says get high quality backlinks, but no one tells you how to do this.

One of my favorite quotes is "work smart, not hard"
I'm telling secrets, but create some sort of unique link-bait that is an asset to webmasters in your niche and you will never have to worry about backlinking again. Creating a series of Wordpress and Website themes, targeted at your niche, is one method.

You can; Buy a backlinking package and it is good one time, with most of those backlinks dropping off after a time. And many of them will drop off. Try it and see.
    Or,
Have website/wp themes designed for about the same price as the BL package, drop them off at the many free theme directories, and have residual backlinking, in your niche, forever. Not to mention the link you get from the directory, including Wordpress if your theme is worthy.

In my opinion, there are lots of simple, more effective ways of backlinking that don't require spamming 1000's of blogs and forums
