It seems Google is using outside human raters, at least in part, as a form of quality assurance. Singhal said they asked raters questions like "Would you be comfortable giving this site your credit card? Would you be comfortable giving medicine prescribed by this site to your kids?"
No offense to you, but that doesn't make any sense at all & shows how naive Google is.

What about the thousands of people that gave out credit card info to Vitaly Borker, they trusted him & his site 100%. Nothing happend until the NYT made it public with an article & the Feds stepped in & dealt with the situation.

Well no system can rule out exceptions but sorry there just is a general correlation between how a site looks and operates to the value of the site. to this day crappy sites tend to be garbage (sure there are exceptions but if you lose out with poor design in the SE then whose fault is that?). Good news for designers is that now design IS part of SEO.

Google is playing this smart though. Instead of going for ranking sites on feedback from users through their chrome plugin they are using the signals their customers don't like and syncing the algo with those factors. Much harder to game than just using bots to manipulate the chrome plugin.

Interesting read. I think most of the kinks will work themselves out as Google collects data on quality sites that were impacted by the recent chances. From a searches point of view I think for the most part the results have been positive and will continue to improve.

I'm pretty sure that Ezine articles is going to look a lot different 6 months from now.

What am I going to do? Stick with blog commenting while thats still powerful. No doubt in a years time we'll have another "great" update from G penalising blog comments!

I absolutely agree with this. I think it is inevitable that it will be coming. Anything that is getting spammed to death will be hit over time with an update to correct the problem. It just makes sense. I actually thought that would be the next update that was coming, instead of Panda hitting the article content spam, I thought it would be the blog comments. But surely it has to be coming soon. An update to either completely discount links coming from blog comments or to not count them on platforms that are frequently targeted by spammers (get your auto-approved blog comments here by the thousands!).

    Pretty good, enjoyed it!

I always knew that the ratio content <--> ads plays a role....therefore careful. I might want to to examine my sites also just to make sure.

Furthermore, i also started to write and publish longer articles, simply to get the content ratio higher.

    I find this nugget interesting:

But for example, our most recent algorithm does contain signals that can be gamed.

    Quoted from:

I guess the key, as always, is identifying those signals.

I started making money online eight years ago and it was a totally different ball game. Things have really changed in just the last couple of years too.

The one upside of time is the increase in the amount of people using the Internet to make purchases.

Google's Panda was an recent change and attempt by Google as a search engine to even the playing field a little bit with SEO and give more call to quality over quantity with link building techniques.

I find negative response from other members here about this link. Maybe, I will try to read it myself and will be back with my opinion.
