When backlinks are created it, usually the full URL www.example.com is used.

Yahoo siteexplorer makes a difference between www.example.com and example.com.

You can either link with the www subdomain or without.

Do you notice any difference from google when only using either one of them when creating backlinks? Like rank wise?

Since market samurai switched to majestic seo I started to look at this, since my domain dropped in backlinks alot when looking at their report. And I ussually create backlinks with the www subdomain.

Are either one of them worth more to google? What's your view on all this?

There is no difference because of the www. added to your domain. However, I'd advise that you keep it consistent - keep your linking to either of them only, because there is a difference as far as search engines and their backlink ranking algos are concerned.

www and non www are totaly differant domain. all search engine will take it as differant domain . Generall domains are created with non www when you create extra domain in cpanel .

for better search ranking redirect other to any other.Use anyone of them for backlinking.

You should use the canonical tag to redirect either the www to the non ww or vise versa. Then as far as backlinking I would use both (assuming one is redirected to the other). A seemingly 'natural' backlink profile will generally have both forms used.

Ok, thanks, seems to be exactly as I thought. And I've allways been redirecting to www., so that's good.

Yes, G sees them as 2 separate URL's. Stay consistent when building backlinks. Same URL structure, same anchor text.

Some time ago I had a conversation through mail with majestic seo.

I asked them why their report says that one of my websites had so little backlinks. And if it akes them a long time to update. Because yahoo site explorer showed alot.

Their response was that they will find more overtime but If I'm checking how many backlinks I have to make sure I use root domain such as example.com rather than URL such as homepage: http://www.example.com

I asked them why not just use http://www.example.com or www.example.com and the answer was I "can use those as well but then backlink counts would be for subdomain or URL - less than whole domain."

He kinda seemed to make it look like backlinks without www. is better or worth more then with...

      Was confused with his answers.
