Does this affect search engine rankings?

I have my blogs with Typepad, mainly because unlike the rest of the world, I have never been able to really understand Wordpress. This makes me feel incredibly stupid but it is what it is. Anyway, I never really thought of this until recently, but apparently on Typepad the first domain is the regular .com domain name but each additional blog is then a subdomain of the original. Now, I am wondering how this could affect rankings in the search engines. Anyone have any idea about this? If it will be a problem, I suppose I could try again with Wordpress since all the blogs are very new and not ranking anyway. Thanks.

  • Let me do some research.

    OK, back.

Yes, this affects search engine rankings.

    Solution:

    You can use domain mapping:

"Domain mapping is a popular feature in TypePad, available with a Plus or Pro subscription."

In plain English: You buy your own domain name and then you point it t your TypePad blog.

Couldn't I do the same thing by buying a domain then forwarding it to my subdomain blog on typepad? And if so, does this negatively impact the search engines?
