My site keeps dancing around in the serps!

It's only a little over 3 months old, but it's in a fairly low comp niche, yet it keeps jumping from page 2 and page 6. It spends about a day or two days high on page 2, and then drops to page 6 for about 2 weeks before going back up to a similar position for a day or two. This cycle has been happening for the past 6 - 8 weeks and is really annoying.

Anyone know what I should be doing to steady the rankings? Over the past 4 - 5 weeks I've been building some really high quality backlinks to it but it still continues to fluctuate.

PS. The KW I'm going after I have an EMD .com, which just makes it all the more frustrating.

I think that's what they called Google Dancing. I've encountered this up and down SERP but after a month, it moves back to its original ranking.

Is it strange that inner pages targetting different keywords are now ranking for the main keywords?

EG. My homepage was targetting my primary keyword, which also happened to be my EMD.

When my rankings dropped, the page ranking for my primary keyword was a random inner page. Sometimes it was just a tag page!

    Before Drop:
    Primary KW = Page 2
    Ranking Page = yoursite.com

    After Drop:
    Primary KW = Page 6
    Ranking Page = yoursite.com/tag/etc

This is the case for many of the terms I was trying to rank for. Seems strange to me, or is this just how the dance works? (tbh, I've experienced the google dance with other sites and usually the same page ranks, as opposed to this scenario, I'm just not sure why it's happening now and how to fix it?!)

    • I've also had this with 2 of my sites which are about the same age (3 months).
Yea I think its just Google's way of finding your rightful place in the SERPS. Just stick at it.
