I imagine that getting a bunch of backlinks must do something for your ranking and traffic, but is it really worth it or are there better ways to use your time and money?

Back links do work, just depends on the quality of them. You can have 1 good back link and be more effective than 2500 bad back links.

Good links can help, but do due diligence before buying link packages, as BAD links can hurt actually. There are other things to take into account as well that I wont get into as that topic has people who are widely divided on the issue ( things such as " natural " linking patterns etc ).

Backlink packs are fine as long as you mix up other linking methods to go along with it. I have done article blasts, profile linking and forum posts. If you have a natural variety, it look that much the better to the search engines. I even sprinkle a few .edu domain anchor text links in there for spice, it all works out.

I am assuming you are already aware of the value of content that delivers value to your site visitors. With that in mind, links packages can help your ranking - especially if they are high PR links from relevant topic sites. However, even high PR links from unrelated sites will give you a boost.

You may also want to research and study internal link structure.

As people are saying variety is the key here, so mix it up with article posting, social bookmarking and press releases Also no need to for thousand of links a dozen quality PR5 and above backlinks is more than enough juice to make you climb the serps.

    Hope that helps
