Professional Content Counts Does It?

Hi Warriors,

I was just browsing about, as i had a loose ten minutes.

Anyhow, i came across this article: Mahalo Reduces Headcount by 10% After Google Algo Change

It goes on about Mahalo founder and CEO Jason Calacanis.

Now, he says he has professional content, but yet, he is cutting 10% of his workforce due to Google algo changes.

Please tell me, how can someone that says google looks for pure content, and rates it higher than rubbish content, when apparently someone is cutting his workforce that apparently has professional content?

I know, i haven't checked further into this, to find out the quality content the site boasts. But, surely Google isn't just after professional content are they?

I am only query this, as i am no SEO expert, and thought others should now.

    Really, it sounds to me like before the changes they would hire most any writer willing to write--which usually means a lot of freelancers, and some that really aren't very good but are cheap. They have since decided to cut out any of the writers that don't meet the grade--and thus put them on hold for the moment, so they can figure out who to give the axe and who to keep around for some content writing--video descriptions, selected articles, page content etc.

    It sounds like while Google has slapped big content sites, they didn't slap massive Video Sites--much harder for Google to figure out what content in a video is decent and what is crap really and a lot more time consuming--Google of course is already working on some great video processing software (look up Google Goggles, for the android and whatever else they have ported it to, when they get that working, they will have an on the fly video filter and you can bet they will find a way to filter good content out, it's their life).

    My guess is in the coming months they will keep some freelancers--but only the ones producing top quality for the price, and then they will focus most of their efforts on producing mass content for YouTube and other video sharing sites.

    Just my opinions of course as this is all guesswork until what happens, happens anyway.

    how can google really tell between quality content and half done articles.

    In other words, I write about different things but I'm not an expert in the field - so will G punish me for that?

    I think that G is going after pages that don't have enough content on it. They also went after content farms such as Hubpages and Squidoo where it is pretty easy to spam articles.

    OP, ask yourself this.

    If the guy cutting 10% of his workforce is doing so based on his Google rank, how smart do you really think he is?

    Besides, that 10% is probably out sourced work.

    Do a bit of research on Mahalo and its founder. Some of the things they've done in the past are flat out spam. They're not the quality site they claimed to be at all.

      You know, it depends. Is he losing money? If he is, then i would cut the work force down. But, i think he is pretty smart to employ people to do the content for him. However, an idiot because it is affecting his overall Google rank.

      Yeah, i did take a look after reading your post. But, there are loads of companies that do this. However, if you are earning loads for say Christmas, does it really matter? Because, how are you going to rank for only Christmas, when its only for a day or so?



      But warriors, what i am trying to say is, does professional and great content count? Or do you have to milk it in some way? For example, you make a site, and you milk the content in at 5 a week, then a couple of months go by at 5 a week. Then you start milking at 20 a week, then 1 a week, then 40 a week.
