Importance of Website Design

This has been one of the major problems for me because sometimes I get a bit too strung up on finding the best theme and modifications that no work gets done. I realize that most would argue that spending time on the SEO aspect is far more important, but won't most people leave as quickly as they came if they see a generic spammy looking site? I mean I can't imagine those having any decent rates of conversion when it comes to affiliate marketing.

Anyhow,

1) What kind of themes do you use for different types of sites? Are premium themes worth it?

2) Is a decent header image worthwhile in most cases?

3) What kind of plugins do you use to help make you affiliate sites (especially Amazon) look more professional or convert more easily?

  • If you have an adsense site, or are doing affiliate marketing.... you could have a really bad design and do well. You will notice the nicer the site is, the worse you do lol.

    I don't offer web design services to internet marketers. Most just want a quick easy template, something you can get up in 30 minutes, and be done with it.

    Now, an actual corporation, or service, you should spend money on web design.

  • The same thing happens to me. Partly it's because I'm a perfectionist by nature when it comes to certain things, but I also agree that having a site that is both attractive and easy to navigate can only help, not hurt.


    I use Wordpress themes for all of my sites, and I try to find themes that match the overall look and feel that I'm going for.

    I think premium themes can be great for sites that you really want to devote extra attention to, but for mini sites I probably would just go with a free theme. My absolute favorite premium themes are at ThemeForest, and most are within the $30- $35 range, which I think is very reasonable for a professional and attractive design with all of the plugins and features I need:
