What has google done with my site?

I was checking on Google webmaster tools this morning, and most of my backlinks are not showing on the total number, they seem to have disapeared overnight.

The crawl stats say that googlebot has been on my site and crawled most of the pages a few days back, and I have been busy with link building over the last couple of months?

Does anybody have any idea what could be going on?
I readh that it could be a "google dance", but I havnt a clue really.

    I don't think there is any Google dance for backlinks, Google is consistent in showing very limited no. of backlinks in Search while actual no. of backlinks in Google Webmaster.


    If you have recently done linkbuilding then I will suggest you checking your backlinks in Yahoo Siteexplorer, if its there then Google will also show in some weeks.

      well my position hasnt changed on the organic search results, so i wont worry too much.

        you should not worry at all. google never shows all the backlinks it finds.

          Don't worry much about losing backlinks. Instead continue on building quality backlinks in order to improve your keyword rankings. It's the quantity and quality of back links plus the onpage optimization that determines who will rank on top og Google's SERPs.

    Hi, Sometimes it happens and to your site will get ranking again you just have to wait for sometime and keep on doing SEO work to maintain reputation of your website over search engine.

    Hey,

    Same thing happened to me today. My backlinks aren't showing up at all in the webmaster tools.

    It happened to my friend on Friday last week and his links are back today.

    I guess as long as our organic traffic isn't affected we shouldn't be worried.

    Have you downloaded the links in csv format in the past? If yes please check whether the websites giving you outbound links till exist or they have expired?
