Google, there must be a logical reason for this?

Hello.

I did ask this question a day or so ago but never did get an explanation that satisfied me.

I have a good high content website which has decent onsite optimization, and after analyzing the oposition I know I have more than enough incoming links to compete with page 2/3 of Google.

The primary keyword phrase for the home page is "gold leaf"

When I do a search using this phrase I am not in the top 100, and I am certain I should be.

When I do a search using the phrase "goldleaf" the home page appears at the bottom of page 1 (in my region)

So what gives? I can well understand that Google auto corrected goldleaf, I have no problem with that, but why am I nowhere on google for my primary phrase "gold leaf"?

Thank you

Richard

For a start, your page has far too much HTML in it, don't use X-site Pro, it's totally crap. Create a new template that's built for the SE's.

Your description tag is extremely weak, as too with your title tag.

You've got too many links in your footer, this is classed as link spamming.

You have no sitemap for search engines, ie, ror.xml.

and you don't have enough quality links pointing to your site. So you got a lot of work to do.

      Loz

      Thank you for your comments:

"Your description tag is extremely weak, as too with your title tag."

could you explain what you mean by weak please?

"You've got too many links in your footer, this is classed as link spamming."

Didn't know that, I shall remove them from the footer.

"You have no sitemap for search engines, ie, ror.xml."

I have the google site map made by xsite.

"and you don't have enough quality links pointing to your site. So you got a lot of work to do."

      So it would seem.

Thank you sincenrely for your critique Loz, but you have not answered my question.

        Hi Richard,

You can find the information you are looking for here:

How to write effective title tags

How to write effective description tags

        What are Sitemaps?

It's not the number of backlinks that count the most, it's the quality and relevance of the links. One high quality relevant backlink can be worth more than a 1000 other backlinks.

        weak as lousy, not good.

If I was targeting a keyword "Gift Baskets"

I'd do something like this for my description tag.

"Gift baskets of all sorts. Unique Gift baskets, Christmas Gift Baskets, even ribbons for Gift Baskets for any occassion only at GiftBasketsOnline.com"

        Or something to that affect.

Not good enough, complete drop that software.

a ror.xml file is a search engine file, they prefer these more than any other site map. and you place the link to it in your header tag.

How are you getting your backlinks? All I did was submit to the top article directories and I am ranked on the first page of Google, MSN, and Google for my primary phrase "personal development audio book". But I also have that phrase as my domain name, so I know that they give extra weight for that.
