Google Head Scratcher

Hello everyone,

I'm hoping that someone could shed light on why I can't seem to rank on #1 for my targeted term (we'll use "Sour Lemons" as the example):

SERP for the term Sour Lemons displays:

competitor site (Rank #1)

Title: Sour Lemons

my site (Rank #2)

Title: Sour Lemons - Why To Eat Them Whole

I would really like to kick off my competitor once and for all from #1, though I am at a loss as to what other SEO factors I may be missing to achieve this...Could it just have to do with the Page Title even though I have more backlinks?

What are your thoughts? Suggestions, etc....
#search engine optimization #google #head #scratcher
  • "thoughts" wont get far here Would have to see the site, probably some on-site stuff to optimize. Look at the content maybe.
  • If this page is really important to you (which sounds like it does because you wanna beat the number 1 guy so much), then simply backlink more and more and more.
  • We don't know and cannot answer that. We don't know how
the google love is obtained. It is obtained through a variety
of reasons, and you may never be able to know it off.

BUT...you probably rank #1 for other reworking of your keywords.

Nobody is going to tell you 100% how to dethrone a #1.

Sometimes it can't be done unless the site goes belly-up.

I think you are somehow making the same mistake others do.
Equating #1 to backlinks. It's more than that.

Their page could be optimized better, have authority, and
    google trustworthiness. All fudge factors.

Low quality/higher quantity backlinks will never beat higher quality (PR/authority) backlinks.
  • Post more info on the competitor, or run them thru Samuari and share the results.
  • Am I missing something here? These domains are 6 years old or more and are packing MILLIONS of backlinks to their root domain! That has GOT to count for something!

What kinds of links do they have?

    Mmmm... lemons.
