Google Farmer Update & SEO Strategies

From what (little) I understand of the Farmer Update, Google will slap blogs that aggressively go after backlinks through such means as multiple submissions to article directories, like EZA.

Please help clarify, if that's not (quite) right.

I am in the early stages of implementing some SEO strategies that I bought a while ago, many from the WF as WSOs. Things like submitting ...

* (spun) articles (original &/or spun) to multiple directories,
* URLs to multiple blog directories,
* videos to multiple video directories, and
* multiple Press Releases

Also, doing a link wheel (following a well-reviewed link wheel blueprint).

Does anyone (who is really familiar with the Framer Update ) know whether such SEO strategies would get me/my blogs in trouble with Google for implementing them?

Thanks!
Richard

Well I would not suggest building a link wheel, and if you don't fully understand what your doing with regards to SEO, and you care about the site you are talking about, find someone that does.

You can find countless qualified people on this site, but from your question I would say seek some professional help or prepare to get a good old Google Slap...

Article distribution is a fantastic way of getting lots of backlinks because you can get targeted keyword anchor text links from your resource box.

But it is just one strategy and should be combined with writing quality content on your target site, engaging visitors to your site and getting links from anywhere else you can.

      Wrong & wronger.

The benefit is the link, so it doesn't matter that your articles are the same. And there is no such thing as loss of backlink value. It can only increase over time.

The first point that you mentioned, I do not recommend it. If you are submitting same articles to different article directories you will not get any benefit. Even what I think that you will lose the backlink value from the major article directory. Better write quality content and publish only on one good article directory.

This is 100% not true. There is NO way EVER that backlinks or the source of backlinks can harm a site, at least not permanently.

The farmer update targeted CONTENT FARMS, and no where did i read or see one hint that it means Google would slap sites due to links from article directories, even multiple ones. This would be absurd.

There is no indication whatsoever that now links from article sites like EZA would "harm" a site..again..absurd thought.

Google uses links as a powerful component of PageRank, and PageRank of course is the basis for search results pages. The Farmer Update didn't impact links, it impacted sites trying to game Google's system. And apparently the update worked... we're seeing a LOT more links for our members hitting higher in the SERPs now that a few content farms aren't sucking up all of the Google love.

The links are coming from highly targeted niche sites. I was chatting with a member last week who commented that he found his article on multiple sites (because they remain in Google's index) displayed when they happen to be the right search result in relation to the search query.

It worked like this: Imagine an article about a shoe store in Omaha filing bankruptcy without using a lawyer. Depending on the search query, that article shows up on one site focused on failing retail stores, another site focused on small companies going out of business, another site focused on filing bankruptcy, another site focused on bankruptcy without a lawyer...

Now that content farms are suppressed, an article is not always being displayed at EZA. Now it shows up on the right site for the right searcher - because that's what Google does best! And when the searcher gets a relevant result, the clicks go up, and that's good for Google, for the searcher, for the site owner and for the author. Now THAT's Smart Distribution!

Sorry if I mis-spoke. PageRank certainly isn't the sole decision point in determining search position. In a world where there are only a scant handful of PR10 sites, and BILLIONS of PR0 sites, your PR0 sites are being evaluated as more relevant to a particular search than competing PR0 sites

None of those will 'get you in trouble' so long as you're not a content farm yourself... There's no such thing as a bad or negative backlink. The article marketing and distribution strategies are still beneficial, just probably not as powerful as they used to be...

From how I understood Google's announcement about the Google Farmer Update, the analyses of various credible companies and SEO specialists as well as my own observations, inferences and test results:

This is incorrect. Google said they aim to reward websites with diverse, unique content more than websites that just syndicate content from other sources. This "most likely" means backlinks on websites that just syndicate content rather than develop their own diverse, unique content have lower weight/value now, with the Google Farmer Update, compared to pre-Google Farmer Update times. I mentioned "most likely" because they did not officially announce anything about lowering the value of backlinks on websites they tagged as content farms...

If you have one and the same article submitted and published to multiple article directories: They won't devalue nor penalize your onsite content pages linked by those published articles. Rather: Those backlinks "may" have less weight/value for Google compared to pre-Google Farmer Update times...

They did not say anything about penalizing content farms. Rather: They officially announced they will give more credit to the original sources of diverse, unique content aimed at providing maximum benefits and optimal user experience to people, over websites that just syndicate original content from other sources...

Content diversity is directly related to user experience. Some people may prefer reading articles than viewing videos. Others may want to read materials with a personal touch from the author, than materials written in formal business tones, so they prefer reading blog posts. Some may prefer viewing videos than reading ebooks or reports, while a few may want to view slideshow presentations than videos...

This is my recommendations for the Google Farmer Update: Repurpose your onsite content and distribute it in the online places where your target market hangs out...

    Specifics

Write articles with unique, high quality content...
What is unique, high quality content? In my opinion:

Unique, high quality content is content integrated with the author's own relevant sets of observations, inferences, test results, actual experience, theories, opinions and perspectives, aimed at providing a specific target audience relevant benefits, developed in a style and packaged in ways not found elsewhere...

Combine those articles and add supplemental content not found in any of those articles to become a PDF ebook or PDF report...

Use the pages of the PDF ebook/report as the slides of a Microsoft PowerPoint presentation, and add supplemental content not found in the PDF ebook/report nor in any of those articles...

Record the screen with a screen capture application while viewing the slideshow presentation to become a WMV video, and use the same application to add supplemental content not found in the MS PPT, PDF ebook/report nor in any of the articles, such as background audio tracks and voiceovers...

Publish those articles, PDF ebook/report, MS PPT and WMV video on your website...
Distribute those in contextually relevant online places where your target market hangs out...
Distribute those in contextually relevant online places where webmasters go to get contextually relevant content they can syndicate on their websites for their own target audience who may have similar needs and problems as those of your target audience...

Focus on your target audience. Don't mind Google. They seem to love your website more when you do this...

Hear Hear Marx! I have NEVER heard it expressed more succinctly. Consider yourself welcome at any gathering I host.

Content curation is the key these days. Think of yourself as the curator of a museum archive. Every piece in your display must be cohesive, relevant, and making whatever point you choose to make.

From this new algorithm updates now google will crawl content base site like hubpage, ehow, ezine article and more. You must give focus to optimizing your site content on different social media and social bookmarking site. Now google will also get results from popular social media site to rank sites on google SERP results.

It's not how you build your backlinks, but how you create your website's contents count. High-duplicated contents, meanlingless contents with lots of keywords, these kind of websites definitely will get punished. And link wheel is the same, how about those websites's quality? High or low? Focus on the contents, your websites will be fine.
