I am not sure why but at various times when I search how many pages there are in google for a particular keyword in "phrase" search.I get different answers.Once I got 46500, another time 185000.

I checked the SEOC in Market samurai tells me Search competition is 81000

Anyone has a similare experience?

Which can i rely on for accurate data and what do I do when google gives me such variant results?

      From the Google API.

So the question should be, is the Google API or Google regular search more accurate?

If MS is using proxies you can be getting results from different Google locations. Once I used it to do local keyword research, and I got results for "Albany, Australia" whereas Google would give me "Albany, NY"..hmmm...That was a few months ago, however.

      Hi,

I feel that it is not wise to get a tool that is highly dependent on Google, solely.

Someone told me that Google owns 15% of the internet referral traffic. If what he said is true, then 85% of the traffic referral comes from elsewhere.

Elsewhere - Yahoo, Bing, Altavista, Baidu, Yahoo Answers, Ask.com, Article Directories, Blog Networks, Video Channels, News Channels and many many more.

Can anyone recommend me a tool like Market Samurai but takes data from various channels?

I would suggest the public data is never going to be the whole story. You see far too many sites with no discernable qualites that rank well for it all to be there for you to see.

    Azmanar,

I believe MarketSamurai also pulls from Bing.

I wouldn't worry too much about the other sites, since much of the 85% of the other traffic is organic and you can't promote there anyway. For example, clicks from email links, friends referring friends, direct navigation, clicking a link in a blog, clicking a link from a forum and so on.

True, Google + Bing are just 2, but they are 20% of the traffic, and the other 80% comes from a billion other sources. They are a good sample size.

Is it the complete picture? No. But it should be enough to help you identify markets you can promote into.

      Hi,

What you said makes pretty good sense. At least in the initial stage of forming a direction, which is undoubtedly critical.

If Market Samurai is also taking data from Bing and Yahoo, thats good news to me. I'm almost sold. One more step is comparison with other software.

Many articles and software developers in the market are creating the misguided notion that Google is the traffic God. I have nothing against Google but I am against being misled.

What they are doing is make people become highly dependent and addicted to Google. As a result, a growing number of people will be missing out 85% of the real traffic opportunities out there.

Let's take a look at the near future. About giant companies. Usually when they grow bigger, they become arrogant. This is when many users are immensely troubled with constant changes in policies and TOS.

Authors and software developers are contributing to this future factor, if they continue to mislead users.

I am quoting from an email informing me of this fact from Majestic Samurai.
