Risky to Change Page Title When on First Page of Google?

Is it risky to change page titles or any other items that deviate from the cached page in google? I think I may be able to optimize my title a bit more, but I don't want to risk doing so, if it means i'll drop in page.

  • Probably very risky. Don't overthink the title. You'll end
    up making things worse.

Google cache has nothing to do with anything in this regard.
Not sure why people think the cache is something it's not.
It's just a page that shows what it looked like last time google
cached it. Ask yourself, when was the last time you clicked
on the cache link after searching? Never? Exactly. I doubt
the average surfer knows what it's for.

  • I assume by "the cached page in Google" you meant "the current version of the page that Google knows about".

That said, don't worry too much about title. If you want to change it and the change makes sense, do it, and if you drop in the rankings, just change it back. If you're worried it will drop your rank, don't do it and focus on increasing backlinks instead.

    • Thanks for the replies guys. I'll leave the title alone.

Weird thing though, my site reached 1st page this morning - up from page 10 last night - and I see my site flip flopping from page 10 to page 1. It's happened twice in 5 hours. Any thoughts as to whats causing this?

I'll build more backlinks and see if I can get my placement to be more consistent on the 1st page.
  • If your title is not doing what you need it to do for you then change it. It should reflect the main keyword phrase you are going for. If it does not, then change it.

  • If youre bouncing around its probably because you are building low quality links to your site or your content is keyword stuffed. Get some nice high PR blog comments and drop your keyword density to just one keyword per 400-500 words.
  • IF SEO properly done, how long can it actually take for a site to appear on the first ten pages of google with in demand keywords like "Logo, Web, Designing" etc?
