It takes time for google to index them. Depending on the pagerank and other factors of each site you have a backlink on, this can take a while. You can help google index your backlinks, by keeping a spreadsheet of where all of them are. Once you can see them on each site head over to google and use the google url tool to submit them to google. This will help them get indexed faster.

Optimizing a website is normally a very slow process. You may post your article to high pagerank article directories hyperlinking important keywords to your website. It really helps.

Where are you putting the articles? They may not have been indexed yet, or you may have them in a "no-follow" directory, so the backlinks won't be spidered by the search engines.

If you're getting links from blog comments, ansure they're "do-follow", then make sure you ping the post to make sure the search engines visit them and index your comment. The same is true if you post on a blog that doesn't automatically ping for you. Make sure you use a mass pinger like pinomatic to make sure that you're pinging all the relevant services.

Also, make sure you get some backlinks to your articles from blog comments and web 2.0 sites, such as Squidoo.

Do something interesting on your blog, like releasing a new video, then do a press release about it. Submit that to as many of the free press release services as you can. There's a WSO about that floating around here somewhere. Those releases will get syndicated if you're on top of things, and many of them include the ability to slip in a do-follow link or two, this syndicating your links all over the Internet, in addition to the traffic you may get from the PR itself.

Google does that on my site too and many others I should think, but I shouldn't worry too much. As long as you know there's a backlink there it will count in your ranking.

    Cheers,

Backlinking to your articles to help them get indexed faster. It is a long, slow process unfortunately and it can take some time for them to get indexed.

No Follow links WILL be indexed. They just do not pass page rank on. go to backlinkwatch dot com and check your backlinks. Even your "no follow" links are spidered and indexed

If you're doing it all manually then just make a not of them so you can ping them at a later date. If you're using some submission tools, quite a few of them will save the url's where your link is so you can ping it. Either way, the whole thing is quite a drawn out process so you've just got to be patient.

    YungNic,

I used to spend a lot of time checking back links, page ranks, stats, etc. Then I realized what a complete waste of time it is...and it can be really self-defeating.

Think about it...you do all of this work to try and get back links, then you go to make sure that they are working, visible, whatever...and you don't see them there. Ouch!

Then on top of that, you know that you spent X amount of hours the last two days writing articles and submitting them, but all you see are a few visitors and no money! (insert 4 letter cuss word here!)

Whether you think it does or not, all of this will effect how much success you will actually have. It hurts your ego and totally makes you NOT want to work any harder if you can't see instant results.

It feels like a waste of time, doesn't it?

Yet you know that the back links are there because you can see them physically with your own 2 eyes.

That's all the proof that you need!

Who cares if Google or Yahoo doesn't show them as soon as you get them or even a year after you get them...they are there and they will have baring on your website.

I know you want to make sure that your work is actually going to result in something, but trust me, back links count whether they show or not.

Listen...the key to making money online is focusing 100% of your efforts on things that you can control. If you spend too much time on checking links and stats, you wont have enough time to work your websites the way that they need to be worked.

Understand that making money online requires a tremendous amount of patience and persistence. Just keep on plowing ahead by adding quality keyword optimized content and picking up links as you are. Results will show in the money you make...even if a few of your back links don't show.

pssst, wanna know the real rason why you can't see them or when you do the results differ wildly?

The answer? Google, soon Yahoo and Bing are all slowly pulling out of the back link reporting side of things. Google already don't report much in the wasy of data and soon the link operand will cease to work completely. Yahoo site Explorer is soon to be shut so that'll be Yahoo out of the scenarion and I guess Bing will follow suit.

The reason? They don't make any money out of it and can't monetize it, They are not Charities, they are for profit corporations who have been losing a bundle over the whole amount of Resource used for data mining link analyses over the years.

Just think about it. How much resource you use up on your own site when you try and do a minor search for items and then multiply that over the many billions of web searches carried out every day and then think about the resource required and the costs involved. This is why you can't see any results and the results you will see will shrink over time.

The other thing abut this is that this of course makes all the data mining back link analyses tools defunct so they won't work either. Why? Well they all mine their data from either Google, Yahoo or Bing as these boys are the only game in town and as such it doesn't matter how fancy their layouts are or whether call themselves after some mythical Eastern Warrior all the results they provide will be junk. The reason for this is that the data they need to process will be corrupted at source.

The only way round for this will be if they come to some arrangment with Google or Yahoo to datamine their databases and this will cost. The knock on effect of this will be to massively hike the costs that we the consumer would have to pay and as most folks like to operate with cracked copies of these utilities anyway I can't see that happening.

The solution? Forget about what Back links you can or can't see just get on with looking at your SERPS. If your results are rising in the SERPS then whatever you are doing is working but if your results are falling then change it.
