The only reason I could think of is that your sites violated their TOS. Do you have a site we can look at and maybe we can see why?

Since it's an autoblog, there could be duplicate content on your site. Google don't ban autoblogs unless it has duplicate content. I had that problem when using WP-Robot.

Am having this feeling that you had built spam links using blasts, which works pretty well until everything falls apart in 1 stroke, and i guess you are facing the, i could use the word 'aftermath' of choosing quantity links over quality links.

Dupe content isn't usually enough to get everything banned. There must be more to the story.

Were all the sites on the same ip address?
    Same name on Whois?
If so, just one of your sites could have brought them all down.
Do you have several more sites with same info that are still up?
    How old were the sites?
    What autoblog plugins...Mage, WPRobot, ABB?
Maybe a little overzealous backlinking...Maybe throttle down some when you get back in it.
    Could be anything with Google....

it happened to me.. my site was de-indexed for a month. I was trying to figure it out what was the real cause. I thought it was Casey's SE Sniper but later on I found out it was due to some of my auto-updating subfolder (is it the right term?) sites/links.

      Gladly its now back..

You are living on borrowed time with autoblogging, whatever those around here with a vested interest would have you believe. You never know when the Google-Hammer is going to fall. I had one automated script running and it was earning great and then one day - poof! - it was gone. Frankly I would rather just play their game these days and write original, useful content that will last, not see my hard work go up in smoke.

Hi this is something that every person with made for adsense sites fears, could you answer these questions to help us all understand

        1. How many domains did you have?
        2. Did the de-index ALL of them, and did you have any informative and useful websites?
        3. What was the content like (original, auto blogs, etc)
        4. How large were your websites (5 pages, 100 pages, more?)
        5. Did you use different themes for each site?
        6. Did you install google webmasters on any domains?
        7. Was there any warning, or notice to notify you of the ban?
        8. Were only your sites deindexed, or did they close your adsense account as well?
Thanks for answering these and helping others learn

It could be the "Google dance" where Google might simply be trying to find a suitable position for your site, unless you have done something that is considered Blackhat, give it a few weeks to see if your site gets back to normal

Google is getting better at detecting autoblogs I found my adsense cpc dropped dramatically recently on some of my auto-blogs from $2 to 50 cents
I take that as an obvious downgrading of the site quality by Google
It is early days but I have tried dripfeeding 5-7 unique posts per month and the cpc seems to be on the way back up.
Suggest setting your autoblogs to draft and mixing up the content a bit and maybe add a you tube video combine posts etc..
or the safest bet add some unique content

I find paying someone $3 to write a post 2 times a week beats autoblogs any day! It makes you sleep better at night not wondering if google will nuke your websites

I personally think AutoBlogging is in Google's sights because most of them are full of crappy content. I would think about moving your business else where, I doubt there is in longevity in that model.

When you say "most of them are full of crappy content" you would be exactly right and those are the ones facing problems with Google and the latest update.

Longevity in building crappy sites...no longevity at all.

Longevity in building quality added sites that offer value to the reader...several of us have been doing that for a few years now (some longer) and have had no issues, even after the latest update.

It's all about how you approach it.

For a mass deindexing of that nature, you probably hit a manual review, or made it blatantly obvious to the algorithms that the sites were interlinked somehow.
