Anybody got any advice on how to optimise a Blogger blog (on-page optimisation preferably)? I have read quite alot of threads and articles on the Warriorforum regarding website SEO and I have tried to apply quite alot of that on my blog page as its quite similar. I have searched on the forums but can't really find much on this, I have read some of the articles Google is bringing up for such topic but thought I would ask here also. What I am particularly struggling with is keyword research as my blog isn't necessarily scoped on one particular niche. It's a reviewing site for the latest apps to hit the iTunes store aswell as the latest news, guides, research amongst other things which I uniquely write myself. With it being a more vaster subject I am resorting to different keywords every post and with 5 or so posts on the same page is this going to water down my chances of being ranked with search engines? Thanks for any help and advice.

Mainly just make sure your title and post titles contain your keyword phrase. I started out using free Blogger sites and had great results, but ultimately there's only so much you can do with the free platform.

The great thing about blogger, is that google has done it all for you.
No need for any plugins, it comes nicely SEO'd right out of the box.
With the ability to add javascript and gadgets, no free platform comes
close. That's the power of google, people. Mine rock. Blogspot rocks.

        Hey Nthan,

optimizing a blogger website is a bit tricky.

The reality is that no matter what Google says I think they treat their properties differently.

Here's the thing, if you have that site you should always try to maximise on page seo, this means links within the site, to other pages, keywords used and frequency and length of content.

There is a known trick which is to tie Google properties together. This means that you have a knol, sites and blogger all rolled in kind of one interlinking and passing down juice within the same G family is just one way to improve visibility.

With respect to off page seo, treat it like a regular website. Send deep links to inner pages as much as you can.

I have a good blogger blog that ranks well for several keywords.

About a year ago, If you had someone else with a blogspot blog add your URL to their blogroll, all of the other guys pages that would show that blogroll counted as your own internal links.

I know this for a fact, because my GWT Internal links was adding a bunch of blogspot sites that I didn't own. I came to find out, it was the blogroll giving me credit for all of the other sites internal pages.

They have since fixed this so the blogroll won't give you any credit for the other guys internal pages.

I will suggest to start by doing a deep and extensive keyword research. Once you have the keywords you want to rank for, use them to write posts around them.

Try to do not optimize 1 single post for more than 1 or 2 (at most 3) keywords.

I would recommend you use your own hosting if possible. Blogger is nice.. but private hosting is probably better. IMO.

    Nthan,

You can SEO optimize a Blogger blog posts by editing the HTML code of the blogspot template. It's a simple hack that changes how your published post titles show - instead of the default blog name | blog title format, the hack changes it to a blog title | blog name format.

Here's a link to a blog post that reveals how to do this:

How To SEO Optimize Your Blogger Blog Titles For Higher Search Results

Note: the code in the blog post is italicized and will probably result in a code error, but it is easy to fix - just refer to the screen shot for how everything should appear in the template & then you will be able to save the changes.
