The easiest way to get people to advertise on your site is to approach them. They will want some verifiable stats about your site. They will particularly want to be able to know the number of unique visitors that come to your site every day.If you have stats on your site all the better.

I don't know how well affiliate marketing works with press releases - although I'm certainly open for suggestions.

I have experimented with some banner advertising of recent which has turned out to be quite a success. Here are some tips which i have benefited from over the past few months.

1-(positioning)place banners at the tоp оf а website and make sure it spаns the width оf the webpаge.

2-Buying banner аd spаce

3- experiment with the designs

4- advertisements relative to your actual webpage

Actual ad's for brick and mortar businesses? or internet based companies? each approach will differ. Either way your going to want to put a presentation together to show WHY someone should buy ad space from you on your HIGH traffic blog or just go the easy route and place adsense ads or another form of these ads on your blog.

You could sell direct by contacting websites for sure.

I say approach the people you want to advertise in your site. Stay on those within your same niche as well since you'll have more chances of getting those people to advertise.

Dana - do some research on "Media Kits", they're documents that are usually available on busy websites that contain all their advertising information. It takes time to put together as you have to include detailed stats and demographics and such, but having a PDF handy when people do ask you will save you alot of time, and it looks really professional when you have a media kit

Generally speaking, buyers want to know:

-Who is your audience? (i.e. demographics - are they single guys that sit at home playing WoW all day? maybe they're supermoms? etc).
-How many come to your site each month and from where? (organic is generally favored)
-What is the average CTR for ads on your site? If you don't know, then leave it out, but you should find out pretty soon after putting ads up.

This information tells people immediately:

-If the people going to your site are ideal for their ads
-Roughly how many clicks they will get from an ad on your site, which tells them a cost-per-click (CPC), which they can compare against their own metrics to determine if it will be profitable to advertise with you (granted it won't be a perfect idea, but they'll at least get an idea)

This brings you to trying to figure out your rates, which is a whole bag of worms lol. You said you are getting "thousands" of visitors each month, so I'm going to go with 3000 for an example.

3000 uniques/month x 1.5% click-through rate = 45ish clicks on the ad.

Now 50 clicks isn't much, but it's probably worth $50 - $100 on average.

So I would start a $50/month for the full rotation for a single banner ad. So if you want to have say 4 banners in a single spot, you can sell each slot for $12.50, which is a decent price. Then if somebody wants the entire rotation you can give them a discount for say $40 for all 4 spots.

Let that run for a few months, and if you find you are constantly selling out, then raise the price by say 15-20% for new advertisers. So that $12.50 becomes $15/month.

Continually increase the price every 60-90 days until you find you are just barely filling all the rotation slots, that's your max price point.

You have a good amount of traffic, but in the world of advertising networks, it is really pretty small. We had to hit 500k visitors a month and over a million and a half page views for it to make much sense. You will be best served by making some ad space, but using it yourself to promote affiliate programs. PR Web has a marketing partner program, there are some good Press Release writing programs on clickbank and with your specific niche you might be able to get 2-3 sales a day assuming around 3000 visitors a month (which is about 100 per day). I would also encourage you to put some of your best press release tips together into a PDF, and on your site have people sign into your email list to receive the PDF. Then you can build your list and market additional products over time. Snippets from your blog posts can be your email content, along with a promotion.

Can't you use OIOpublisher Ad Manager - Control Your Ad Space for that? I haven't had experience with using them yet but I think if I wanted to put ads on my site I'd want total control. Of course, you could do it manually. Ad a page to your site that shows your traffic stats and how they could benefit from advertising on your site.

I don't know much about ads but I do notice some forums in the ad spot make a banner that says "Your ad here" then they just let the customers come to them.

I second the idea of using the OIO publisher script. It's easy to use and you can put your own placeholder ads on your site until your ad spaces sell. In other words, you could put CPA offers there or affiliate ads. Then those ads go away when people buy your ad space.
