Got hit hard.. Google dance?

Well as of yesterday I dropped from 1st and 2nd ranked pages for all of my 6-7 keywords out of top 100. I was really surprised and just wow'd...

I have been building backlinks steadily, I got several PR9-PR10 and plenty PR4-PR6.

My specific niche review site is about 5 weeks old, so I'm guessing this is the infamous google dance, how soon should I expect to make it back to where I was?

Hard to tell, usually not too long. Just keep building links and it'll pop back up.

That's a real kick in the crotch!

Are you sure those PR9-10 backlinks are on the same page as your backlinks?

what do you mean by same page as my backlinks? For example, I have wikipedia, myspace, facebook, linkedin, reddit, aol etc.. that link to my site.

The exact page that your backlink is on.

A lot of guys around here think that PR on an Index page will be the same for all the internal pages, which it's not. PR = page rank, not entire site.

Is your high PR on the exact same page as your backlinks?

I just went through and checked most of them and for the majority yes, actually a few more than listed too.

I just went through this with a new site of mine as well - also around 8 weeks in when it happened. I went from the 14th result to the 48th -> I recognize that this was my deserved rank at the time. The good news is that things become less volatile after this happens. About 2 weeks later and I'm up to # 11.

    Just keep building links.

  • So that's what it is called a dance.

I noticed that at times but I never really panicked and they would come back stronger. But as the domain ages it seemed to slow down and I have aged domains that rank higher than I would guess than they deserve. I'm not complaining....

Wow some really nice traffic you're generating there!!

3K unique visitors/day for a site that's only 8 weeks old? All from organic rankings? If that is so, congratulations!

Also, for you to get such traffic, it has to be a high search volume keyword. Hopefully it is also one with high commercial intent and not just an informational kw

I would just go on adding more content and backlinks. I have one site that danced for 2 years and then finally settled down with multiple top rankings. And then again, I have sites that don't dance at all. GOK (God Only Knows = Google Only Knows)

    Good luck!

Yes all organic from SEO, I was actually receiving about 2k/day UV after about a week so I was excited being my first site and I do have commercial intent as the product has not yet been released.

Well I'll continue to build links and add content, but after checking today I think I dropped a bit more.. :/

People usually say "It'll be back stronger than before", I would sort of agree, except I would say it'll be back with a more realistic ranking than before. Especially if you had a spell on page one - you can eventually bounce back up to page 2 somewhere, which is probably more realistic considering the age and authority of your site/the page in question. Then the real SEO work begins, though that doesn't mean you need a BIG push to get back.

Well, anyway, report back as to what happens, because people rarely do after these Google Dance threads so you never get a picture of what's really happening with other people.

One of my sites has also been doing this for about a year now. It started out strong on the first page but about a week later began jumping around and pretty much dissappearing for days at a time. The site is still doing this but its doesnt reach page 1 or 2 anymore. Wish I had the answer because even when my site was reaching page two I was making around $50 a day with it. Im thinking of trying to throw some .edu backlinks at it to see what happens. Anyone have any experience with that?

Google Dance has often been used to describe the index update of the Google search engine. Google Dance is the constant changes in Google's algorithms for indexing and crawling sites.

They are great visitor stats. Personally I wouldn't worry about it if you can pull in those stats initially you'll be doing it again soon.

The name "Google Dance" was in the past used to describe the period that a major index update of the Google search engine are being implemented.

How is your site looking today? I had a site bumped from page one to page six yesterday. This morning it is on page two. Moving back in the right direction!

8 weeks? It seems that you ranked your keywords pretty fast. Are you doing some link buying? because you said you have a link back from PR9 or even PR10 (wow is this Google? lol) websites. But if your keywords doesn't came back in a week or two, probably you got penalized.

3 day since and I haven't moved up one bit, actually might have dropped a couple more -_- so I'm just being patient and building couple backlinks/day. BTW how often should I post new content?

Oh wait, I made a mistake it's actually only about 5 WEEKS OLD. I registered the domain I think on Feb 23. I only bought 300 PR4-PR6 profile backlinks many of those have been indexed and the several PR8-PR10 I've build on my own are indexed (for example my link/content were used as a reference on wikipedia). I've ran my site through google penalty check and it seems fine.
