There's no logic in Google

What is Google doing? I have a site that's been on Google for 3 months. A few days ago I was on page 7 and now all of a sudden I'm on page 39 for the keyword I'm trying to rank for. I'm mean there's no logic in Google...

And besides I have 62 more backlinks than another website that are on page 1, place #7. So I don't deserve to be on page 39, instead I should be on page 1.
#search engine optimization #google #logic
  • Google is not totally illogical.

You have to note that it's not only backlinks that are used to rank. On-site SEO is also very key and as they say Content is king.

    • I totally agree with you my friend. With On-Page Optimization can get rank on Google.

    • Yes you said it "Content is king". I have content and it's pretty good too. Then on page 7 I find a site with "just a headline" and no content. And this site is better ranked than my site.

We both share the same keywords in the domain name, the only different is that I have content. Both are review sites, but no reviews up yet on this other site.

      Exciting

He is right and also who is linking to you is important...if you have 100 backlinks from pr N/a and your competitor has 50 high pr backlinks then he can easily beat you...so build quality backlinks and that way you can rank high in the serps
  • It might have had happened just because of the Panda update. Google is logical as well has each and every resaon for exery ramking change as per the google Panda update most of the sites like business.com, hubpages, ezinearticles are effected so work according to the Google guidelines and nothing will effect your rankings
  • Hi BoJon,

I think afam is right. Google has been cracking down on sites that distribute less than stellar content.

It could be that you’ve not measured up?

    Thanks!

    • Oh, don't worry......there is LOTS of "less than stellar content" getting loads of traffic still.

e.g.; #5 out of over 14 million pages of competition for the keyword how to start choose an online niche

Not the worst article but basically drivel.
  • Google logic is easy. Give users quality content, and you WILL be rewarded. If you try to save money, hire a cheap SEO person, have some poor kid in a poor country spam links, it's only a matter of time before the almighty G figures it out and bye bye your site goes. Give users quality content!!!
  • google only consider quality n unique content....
  • it's probably a dance at 3 months, happens all the time, it sucks, but things will come back eventually, and probably better than before.

Also what everyone has said about quality content is spot on. I think that visit length etc... plays a roll in your rankings as well.
  • Your stats here are logical. Classic actually.

Every new domain that has reasonably detailed content gets a "honeymoon" period with Google, and then a few months after that you lose ranking. Then it's just a slow and steady pace going onwards and upwards.

Patience = Instant Results (in how you feel)
  • Wrong on all counts. The sheer number of backlinks is not a sign of anything.

You are exactly where google thinks you deserve to be. They don't rank sites
on numbers of backlinks and whether the website owner thinks they are
the next best thing since sliced bread.

It would be totally illogical for them to do that.

    • Same thing happened to me a couple days ago. I have a niche review site about 3 months old with well written reviews that was climbing the ranks steadily. I got as high as 22 for my keyword and then it fell of the face of the earth down to the 700s. I'm hoping it is just the dance. Should I keep building backlinks and adding content or leave the site alone for a week or two?
    • Backlinks isn't the only thing that I rely on. I also have the keyword I'm trying to rank for in my domain name. I did follow a guide where basically everything is covered. At least my site deserves a better ranking than an empty site with just one headline which isn't quality content or unique content, it's NO content.

It makes perfect sense, If you don't think about it.

    [lol, just playing]

  • Try to think back, did you change your site's content? It isn't only about the back links so be careful and monitor everything you do on the site. At one time I slipped back eight spots, but......I had changed some of my wording. I changed it back and moved up the eight I had lost!
  • Actually, Google is almost entirely made up of logic: if-then statements and algorithms, and linear algebra

    • OK, so maybe the code is logic, but not the end result (in some cases)!

  • It is not decide on how much backlink do you have but the quality of backlink, either it is 'dofollow' or not! Or it depends to what is the value of backlink you have, is it a PR0 backlink or PR7 backlink, it makes a huge different!
  • Google is a mess. It is so hard to figure out. I dont get it. All I can do is forge ahead and make changes accordingly.
  • Google is governed by mathematics which is pure logic. You simply fail to understand that logic. Just because you fail to understand a concept does not mean the concept fails to exist.

    • I do believe that Googles logic exist, I don't think I said anything against the fact that it exists. I believe it exists but sometimes it doesn't feels right.

  • This isn't a matter of logic, LOL... chances are it is data center related. OR, you were previously ranked higher, because you were logged into your google account, and maybe you just now logged out and found your depressing, REAL, ranking.

    • Here's all you can do...

Nail you on-page SEO. Keyword in domain, H1, H2, H3, bold, mention in first and last sentence, a few times in the article. Link back to the page you're trying to rank for from other pages on your site using the keyword.

Then get to backlinking and don't stop. Find high PR blogs to comment on, do some guest posting, issue a press release, buy an AMR blast on fiverr, then blast those links with auto approve scrapebox blog comments. There are a million other things, but just keep after it.

If you're "sandboxed" try to find some PR5+ blogs to post on or guest post on.

Otherwise just keep working and be patient.
