1st page, 1st place... Now what?

Okay, so I've built a wordpress blog with separate articles on each page. My site contains ~8 pages. I've been mainly profile backlinking and using social addr and now I'm first in 1st page of google ranking with my page (not domain, linking structure is like this /%postname%/) for 3k+ searches for keyword and 3rd pos in first page for another 2k+ keyword (which, amazingly, I haven't built any exact anchor texts at all) and the page contains rules on how to blah blah blah (useful info). Now I get average on 40 visits a day. My keyword is something like "lose stupidity FAST" (I want to bold the word fast because it is said that people will more likely buy the product if they type in fast). I am tracking hits with pretty link, have banner and two links in article pointing to a clickbank product "truth about abs" (which is thought to be bestseller), and I have one supplement product from amazon, also, one little banner pointing to CPA trial offer of credit card submit.

Now I have one question. Why I am getting about 20 hits on affiliate links on pretty link everyday, yet, I get only ~5 hops? Also, google analytics now show that I have 600 visits to the site (my IP excluded in filter) (which supposed to average out on 1200 after three weeks or so).

Why in the love of god I am not getting any sales if people click on ads? It supposed to be like 1% conversion rate, right? About 300 people clicked on links, I should have gotten about 3 sales now, yet it is still ice-cold zero and I have never had a sale from SEO so far! My site offers petty nice content (no phylosophy fluff) in the ranking page. I feel really frustrated because I worked my ba*** off to be in first place and I'm still having no cash in my pocket (which I would use to speed up SEO using software and services as up to this point I still don't have nearly any budget at all). Anyone had the same situation? How did you increase conversion rates?

    You need to start thinking in terms of a buyer's state of mind when they visit your site. Are you warming your visitor up with some great pre-sell content on your site.

    I don't mean that your pages have to be a sales pitch but it has to talk about the benefits of the product you are selling. If it is a weight loss product then the benefits would be..

    * lost a stone and a half in 2 months
    * I am now able to play football with my son
    * I finally managed to buy some fashionable clothes
    * My friends see me in a new light
    * Women are now noticing me..
    etc.. etc..
    A benefit is not a feature of the product but what happens after you use it..
    This is how you warm up your visitors to part with their hard earned cash via your affiliate link.

    If you are looking for more passive income from your visitors then Adsense is the way to go..

      This is sales 101 and a great thing to mention. Any time you want to sell something, you should give the features, but focus on the benefits. Now, if you have a customer in front of you, you can determine what their motivations are with some targeted questions. Because you can't get feedback from online customers in the same sense, you CAN try and figure out what they are likely visiting your page for. So if it is "Get Rid of Wrinkles FAST", what would they have looked that up for?

      The feel they look old
      They are trying to impress people
      They are worried about competing with younger folks in the job market
      They are concerned about how they are perceived
      They are a grandma now and they're not ready for the grandma look
      etc.

      Your target audience is likely women ages 35-60. So the ad should not just say WHAT the product does, but WHY it will benefit your target audience. So if a customer in person says, "What do you have to get rid of wrinkles fast?" You'd say, "You want to get rid of your wrinkles fast, correct? What are your concerns about wrinkling?" They will tell you that they've got an event coming up, or a job interview, or a date, etc. You have to, as an online seller, anticipate their response to your initial question.

      Anyway, that's my two cents, having been in sales most of my life.

    Does adsense approve everything? I mean I've tried already to apply for it but adsense staff says that my site give little value for a visitor, which, I don't deny, is true for some pages, however, other pages seem really good for me. Do I have to rewrite some content or is there other PPC campaign? I don't want to change my site too much as once I burned off from 3rd place directly to sandbox just by doing that.

    Do a Google search for "how to get approved by adsense" or other similar searches and you will find a lot of useful tips. It should not be hard at all to be accepted by them.

    when I first was accepted, I build a hubpage and send them the link. Since I did not own hubpages.com, they could not protest to the site. But maybe they have stricter rules now, I don't know.

    1% conversions, who did you hear that from? That isn't the case for everything. I have 7% conversions, does that mean you will have the same? Absolutely not, it depends on the product. 1% is typical, but you might have .01%. I know a guy that gets quite a few hits, and has a conversion of .02%. Are you collecting emails? What is your opt in rate? If you aren't building a list then you have a problem..

    Besides your conversion optimization I would start targeting more terms, especially long-tail keywords. Also keep building links regularly to keep your position.

    This problem can be when the person clicking your ad already clicked some other affiliate's ad, so a cookie is already set and you don't get the credit for the hop.

    Are you using some cloaking method for your affiliate urls? It's possible for people to mess around with uncloaked urls and interfere with your getting credit. Though it sounds like a lot of your clicks are going astray...

    Conversion rates can be weird, and not spread evenly as percentages, so 300 sales might give you no sales, then the next 300 gives you 10, for example. You typically only see predictable statistical patterns in very large data sets.

    I suppose what that means is hang in there, and as others have said, keep testing things.
