Blog on my static eBook pitch site?

I have a site where all the content remains exactly the same. I'm selling an eBook. I've written the pitch and there is nothing more to write.

Is there any real SEO benefit to making a blog page on the site where I recap news stories relating to my topic? Or since only content on a single page will be changing, is this just seen as a gimmick by google with no SEO advantage?

    Hi,

I think there is a good benefit to doing this.

If you find topics to write about that are related to the subject of your ebook and then find long tail keywords that have low competition this can really benefit you.

    - optimize each blog post for a different long tail low competition keyword phrase
    - put the keyword phrase in your blog post title and once or twice in the blog post
    - link back to your sales page in the blog post
    - ping your blog and social bookmark your blog post
    - rinse and repeat

As well as helping you to increase the traffic to your site, if you keep the blog posts related to the same topic as your book then you may get visitors to your blog that turn into buyers.

You could also put a subscriber box on your blog as well if you have an optin list.

    Cheers,
    Suzanne

Hi Suzanne. Thanks for the thoughts. DO you think the blog will boost the entire site in the SE's or just the blog paqe itself?

Can you explain what you mean by:

ping your blog and social bookmark your blog post

I'm a little new to some of this. Thanks!

    Hi Jonathan,

By optimizing each blog post for something different you will get more traffic to each of the individual blog posts themselves, but you can drive traffic back to your sales page from your blog by mentioning it in the blog posts and on your blog template, so it should help you get more traffic to your sales page too. The internal backlinks from your blog to your sales page should also help to boost the rankings of your sales page.

If you are using wordpress you can ping blog services automatically, but if not, then go to something like Autopinger - Automates Ping Blog and Podcast for Free and enter your blog URL.

Social bookmarking sites (e.g. Digg, Technoratim StumbleUpon) are another way of getting traffic, but the results are determined by user popularity rather than search engine algorithms. If you bookmark your blog posts, you may get a spike of traffic from these sites if it is something interesting or newsworthy. Some social bookmarking sites will also give you a backlink which can help to boost your rankings.

    Try:
Bookmark & Share - The Power of the Button | OnlyWire (easiest and quickest)
Social bookmarking service. Fast tagging and posting to all major social websites - SocialMarker.com (takes longer but more than twice as many sites)

If you are bookmarking don't just bookmark your own site, use it to bookmark other web pages of interest otherwise certain bookmarking sites may shut your account down.

    Hope his helps!

    Cheers
    Suzanne
