Is the Yahoo Site Explorer Going Away?

Hello Everybody,

Over the last 6 months I've read a couple of articles (with no followup discussion) that since Microsoft and Bing have taken over Yahoo, the Yahoo Site Explorer is going away?

I'm very curious that if it's true, there has been no discussion about it here or on a couple of the other Internet Marketing forums.

The last post I saw was this: Yahoo Site Explorer going away! | High PageRank Link Building Service!!!

So anyone have the "real scoop"? The loss of this tool would hurt Internet Marketers a great deal as we get our backlinking data using this tool.

    • Well, the site explorer api was scheduled to go down in march 2011 Site Explorer Web Services - YDN

I don't know if it did, but I was disappointed to hear that as I wanted to create some applications based on it.
  • Hmm...that's really interesting.

I didn't realize the Site Explorer API was closing down last month.

Probably the SEOMoz or MajesticSEO guys would be good sources to ask since they work heavily in this field and probably keep a pretty good pulse on it.

It'd be a real shame to lose the Yahoo Site Explorer...but I'm sure it takes quite a bit of time and money to keep it all running smoothly.

    Best,

  • The Site Explorer API has been shut down according to Yahoo.

Site Explorer is still available to the public however.

Yahoo is not saying too much about it, other than this is the result of its search information to be purchased from Bing.

Bing will allow us to gather some information through their API, but they will not allow information to be gathered that can be used in SEO tools.

Yahoo is not saying what the future of the Site Explorer is in total, because honestly, I don't think they know whether they will be able to continue to gather from Bing the information that Site Explorer uses to provide its information.

    • Well perhaps there is a glimmer of hope for all of us Internet Marketers who relied on the tool to analyze the competition of a market.
