does wordpress automatically create a RSS feed for a blog or is this something that must be done manually? if not, how do i go about acquiring an RSS feed?

actually better question, how do i go about figuring out what my feed is?

site dot com/feed : is that the feed if i use wordpress?

  Yes, that's the WordPress built-in feed.
  
  You might also want to setup your feed through Google's feedburner.com for tracking and some extras.
  
  Then you can use this plugin FeedBurner FeedSmith WordPress Plugin / WordPress Themes, Plugins & Development to automatically redirect your feed updates to feedburner.com
