Naturally... you need to provoke posting...

If you notice. the admin posts here are always extremelly popular/important and they get a lot of traffic because they are locked at the top
do this. and go in and chit chat with ANYONE who is in the forum
in fact I would pay a couple of people to get on there and help you with that.. you dont want anybody going un-answered quickly on a forum that is just getting its start.. because then they wont come back!!

some people pay people to do forum posting/seed posts ..a lot depends on the quality of the poster with this technique ...

Another idea might be to run a competition/contest advertise on one of the free competition sites and have a prize for best post in your forum

To increase posting on your forum you can run a competition/contest.And admin must need to be efficient to start interesting topics so convince and attract more people for posting.

Competitions while popular on new forums often fail , Mainly because people come to the forum just for that competition and once its over there is little for them to stick around for because there is no rapport between members and no real active discussions.

Paid posting is also something that imo is a waste of time unless you spend a good amount of money on high quality posting. 9 times out of 10 you can tell exactly who the paid posters are on a forum and for me it automatically turns me away from a forum if all i see is paid posters.

It really depends on what your plans are for the forum , whether its a short term project of which you may try to sell in a couple of months or whether its a topic of which you have great knowledge of and a passion for.

If its the latter then you shouldnt have any problem, Create informative posts and have a number of accounts of which you post on them all .( yes i mean talking to your self ) You can then create discussions of which people will want to join in to.

Starting a forum is by no mean a quick make it and leave it type of site unless you have a large advertising budget.

I would say that you could mention your forum on the main page of your site. Be sure to populate all of your sections with threads that are interesting and warrant discussion. Link your forum in your siggy on other forums (if they allow it) so people with similar interests might go there.

I am not a fan at all of paying people to "shill" your site, whether it be in a forum or in comments. I think fake stuff is obvious and a real turn-off. To start though, you may ask your friends to register and to participate legitimately in the conversations. If they are interested in the topic, they may stick around after your membership grows, but at least they'll help you get the ball rolling.

    Good luck!

If your post has interesting and valuable info then you can get plenty of traffic.
