Hi People,

I am looking for software that will help me manage all my titles on a domain. Ideally a program that can crawl my website and let me see what is going on.

I've Been looking around on Google for a while but so far all I'm finding are basic tools that are honestly quite pathetic.

Any pointers would be appreciated.

Many Thanks

    Hi Kate,

The very popular Xenu Link Sleuth does exactly that. It was designed to crawl every page of your website and locate all links then test those links to see if they are working. This not only gives you a report of every URL on your website, along page titles, it verifies whether the URLs are working or broken.

Find broken links on your site with Xenu's Link Sleuth (TM)

      Hey... Thanks for the pointer.

I tried this ( someone at another forum also recommended this ). Problem is, this data is not workable. I need to do edits and version control and I don't want to have to hop out to spreadsheets to do it.

Looks like I'm going to have to go custom.

      But thanks anyway

        Hi Kate,

It sounds like exporting the Xenu Link Sleuth report to a spreadsheet will work. You could customize an Excel spreadsheet to do exactly what you asked.

Sure, you would need to use two separate programs, one to grab the data the other to manage the data, but this gives you the most flexibility. If you want to integrate the two, a simple macro script should get the job done.

Thanks for the suggestion. I have a lot of domains to deal with and I refuse to deal with spreadsheets. I have to deal with version control and it just never works on on spreadsheets.

Xenu also makes a lot of mistakes scanning out the titles.

I am the developer of a competing non-free product A1 Website Analyzer

It too can show you URLs with duplicates titles, broken URLs and from where they are linked bla bla bla

If you could explain your need better, I would be happy to take a look if it's a feature I could implement.

But if I understand you correctly, you are saying you want to actually edit the titles of all pages from within the software XENU/A1WA/whatever + have version control? That's going to be very troublesome (for anyone trying to implement it) considering most websites reside online and use a mix of technologies (standard HTML parsing is far from sufficient for that. It would require intrinsic knowledge of lots of platforms and parsing of many programming languages just to get somewhat acceptable coverage. Reason for this is you have to log in to the various CMS system to update the title in the CMS database. And there are many different CMS systems out there...)
