Google Altering Title Tag for Some Results? WTH?

Lets say I have a site on horse shoes.

I type in Horse Shoe and it ranks #1. It has full title tag and meta description.

I click on it

Then I exit and type in Horse Shoes

Now my site only shows the word Horse Shoe was the title tag, and there is NO meta.

Why is it doing this?
#altering #google #results #tag #title #wth

Are you using a toolbar of some type to search? Try it from google.com. Also you may have some plugin or add-on enabled, I'd disable them all and try.

It may be that the title horse would be on other pages, have you checked well this is the same page or different?

Does it have a "xxxyyyzz shared this" underneath? It sounds like the personalization is kicking in and adjusting the results. Hard to say without seeing it but I wouldn't worry about this too much...

    Hi guys

No, with cookies cleaned, NOT being logged in, etc. etc. the metatag is stripped out. Even in scroogle.org it will not show meta description. It just shows ""

Ugh I am in a bad place with all this

Dont try to "control" what Google shows in search results, you can't. Google picks this but you cannot control what they show in the results.

I just wanted to add something to this thread.

I had a look at the keyword + Google search, & I have never seen anything like this in the Google SERPs.

OP, is ranking #1 in the SERPs for his keyword, Google is only picking up a partial of the meta-title, which I think is because OP is seperating keywords in the title with pipes [|].

    Here is the main problem...

Google isn't picking up any of OPs meta-description (ok that happens sometimes no biggie).

Here is the very strange part...

Instead of a description, Google has placed 2 hyperlinks in the descriptions location. It looks like 2 "Google Sitelinks" only they are between the SERP Title & the little green url below the descriptions usual location.

One of the hyperlinks in the descriptions location (in the SERP) is actual anchor-text from the Index-page, I can't find the 2nd hyperlink/anchor-text anyplace on the site ("anchor-text" site:domain.com)

Again, it looks like 2 sitelinks instead of a description.

That's a first for me...

Google has been changing titles for a long time.

They are trying to make it as relevant for the searcher
as possible, and get them to click. It's actually in your
advantage. It should not happen in all searches for
    all terms.

They show the title that is most useful for the search at hand.
This happens especially to sites that use the same title or meta
    across several pages.

The snippet/title/description changes in relation to users.

I would actually look at it as a good thing.

      True,

It's the hyperlinks in place of the SERP description that I'm most interested in, OP doesn't like them, but I would like to test them on one of my own sites, just to see If I can get them to show up (testing CTR).

I've seen Google do some funky stuff every now & then, but this one takes the cake. It looks like Google Sitelinks, but a normal Google sitelink is usually below the little green url that is below the descriptions location.

Without showing OPs keyword or site, here is a mock up of what Google is doing, only OPs description/hyperlinks are both longer keyword phrases.

Those are actual hyperlinks in place of the description, it has 3 clickable/hyperlinks total.

      1) Title

      2) Description hyperlink #1 (used cars)

      3) Description hyperlink #2 (car magazine)

Anyone ever seen something like that, or have any live examples on the SERPs?

I also noticed that OP is ranking #1 for each set of keywords between the page title pipes [|].

Example page title for the Index page:
    keyword1 | keyword2 | keyword3 | keyword4

When you search each individual keyword between pipes, most are ranking in the #1 position in Google SERPs.
