Which Backlinks Actually Work Discussion

So after ranking 5 websites with about 40 individual pages from those sites ranking on page #1 for a keyword or multiple keywords ive come to only one definite conclusion in regards to backlinks. The only backlinks ive ever built that I can say with absolutely certainty definitely helped my rankings were profile signature and bio links. Now im not saying that the others didn't help im just saying I can't be certain.

Everytime I do a profile link blast I see some change. With new sites they'll usually dance like crazy and with old sites within a day or two i'll start seeing some movement. In regards to web 2.0, article directories, blog comments, article distribution networks, ive done it all, im pretty certain they had to have helped but im never sure.

If I take a brand new site and throw 2000 blog comments it may not move, it may drop, it may stay still. If I do a big Web 2.0 blast it may not move, it may drop, it may stay still. Same with article directories ect... Profile links always spark movement sometimes temporarily bad but in the end good.

My question to you all is what have your findings been. Aside from actually having visitors build your links naturally or emailing the webmaster of a high PR site and asking for a link. What of the typical link building methods have people seen work first hand.

Do you just create profiles on these forums and leave them as they are after adding your signatures or do you keep posting on these forums and what do you exactly mean by profile link blast?

A lot diverse links with varied anchor text pointing back to your highly keyword optimized site should work pretty much all the time. Other than that just keep building.

I wish that were true but for example I have a website. I have 2 separate pages aimed at 2 separate keywords although both keywords are similar. Both pages are about as perfectly SEO optimized as they can be.

Page 1 has yahoo site explorer listing 160 backlinks all PR-0

Page 2 has yahoo site explorer listing 1400 backlinks with many PR 4,3,2,1 pages and a lot of PR- 0s

Page 1 is not only ranking very well for its keyword but is also out ranking Page 2 for Page 2's keyword term. Both went through similar backlinking efforts. Page 2 was sluggish so I blasted it with tons of blog comments and article directory articles and it still ranks terribly. So my conclusion was that blog comments held very little value especially in this case. So in this case and many of my cases all anchor text backlinks definitely are not equal and more isn't always better.

Mike Grant that little SOB knows what he's talking about... So listen to him....!!! LOL!

160 backlinks... Really?! That's nothing. A LOT of factors do come into play... If you have NO PATIENCE then get the fook out of SEO.

With that said... 160 backlinks might be good for a **** a$$ NON TRAFFIC term. You want truth?!

For ONE of my sites it shows something like 2200 backlinks in Y! Site Explorer when in actuality I probably created WELL over 10k backlinks for that site... WELL OVER.

Keep working.... And keep at it... And patience my friend... Patience... Honestly, Truly.

Build more, better backlinks, Optimize On-Site better than your competition and you will win... BUT.... It takes time...

I'll put all my money on it if you do it right....

        YES.

Proper keyword research + GOOD on-page SEO + backlinks = success.

That's really SEO in a nutshell.

    backlinks that WORK:
    - related keywords
    - authority sites
    - dofollow links
    - websites with few external links (example; a link on a Wordpress comment which is filled with other external links will be much less valuable)
