What is the best WHITE HAT backlink strategy?

Hi all,

I have been internet marketing for about 3 years now and from my previous experience (including several brush with Google's rules), I have come to the conclusion that it is best to play by the rules if I am serious of building a sustainable online business in the long run.

I try to stay away from the various 'backlink packets' or mass backlinking services available out there because my gut feeling tells me that it will just be a matter of time before Google catches up on these mass backlinking strategies.

For the reason above I have been trying my best to be as 'proper' or 'white hat' as possible in building backlinks for my sites.

I currently have someone to build blog comments for me for about two weeks now and I hope to see some results soon. Are blog comments still good for backlinking?

On my side, i build backlinks within the pool of websites that I own as well as some hubpages and squidoo pages. So far, the best performing (in terms of getting indexed fast) backlinks are those that I built on my own sites as well those on my hubpages and squidoo pages.

The thing is, I only have about 20 of such websites. I realize that the long term sustainable way to build backlinks in the long run is to outsource it.

As mentioned above, I have hired someone to do lots of blog comments for me for about two weeks now and I hope that I will begin to see positive results soon.

Have anyone had any good experience with some good white-hat backlink strategy?

Would really appreciate any feed back.

Thanks in advance for your help!

The ideal white hat strategy is extremely simple but very difficult for most people to execute. That strategy is simply to create the most valuable content you possibly can on your site. You also need to think about building up a brand for your site rather than the usual gimmicky SEO tricks. Sites like Amazon, ebay, Yahoo and of course Google all started somewhere.

I am not saying your site can become the next Google but think how they created a brand for themselves. No SEO needed to get traffic as they have become "one stop shops" for what they do..

If you take those examples and scale it down to smaller niche markets, it is perfectly possible with patience, time and working smartly to create a site synonymous with that niche ensuring a flood of visitors every day.

To start down this pure white hat road your site has to have a unique selling point that stands it head and shoulders above other sites in that niche. You need to get that brand name out there through press releases, articles, media adverts, normal backlinks etc and then rely on the viral properties of your site and its brand to become "the" authority in your niche market.

It's called link baiting. According to Google it is the only type of white hat seo tactic there is.

The old school process of getting webmasters to link to you is still the best. Contact and content.

guest blogging. content syndication, content or link exchanges, press releases (provided its something news worthy). People whine that its a long drawn out process but a couple Pr 4 s added to your link portfolio are more beneficial than 50,000 forum profile links.

You have proof to back this up right? We grab tons of page one Google rankings (1800 in the last 12 months for Warriors) using pr0 blogs. The importance of going after high pr sites is one of the biggest fallacies in seo.

          Sure Matt

I can take you to ton loads of competitive serps That you CAN'T rank for with forum profiles alone . Why you switched it to blogs that at least can have contextual links is beyond me - advertising?).

Don''t blow the the old horn too hard there now. From what I have seen you flat out turn down what you call "greedy" keywords - translation? Too competitive.

So sure you can rank all kinds of long tail and weak stuff but want to make a run at a top notch competitive keyword with just forum links? Really? I'll call your bluff. if you want to claim yes then its easy I name the serp and you show me the site that ranks or do it yourself but don't think I am going to softball you on the terms and incidentally I don't call ranking page one for my customers. Results 1-5 (really 1-4) is where the action is. Results 8 on weak term to begin with is weak traffic.

Not putting it down just saying since you are doing the calling out thing what really ranking is.

Anytime you are ready - but there will be no running away claiming the terms are too greedy . Really tired of misleading anecdotal evidence and posturing . Getting high on page authority links is not a myth when it comes to ranking in REAL serps. You are blowing smoke my friend. I do competitive research constantly for my clients and it is RARE to see a truly competitive term propped up by forum backlinks alone. Its nonsense. 9 times out of 10 theres the PR 3s 4s and fives looking at you right in the face.

Even the famous "backlink" serp. a relatively weak term because its mostly a BlueFart dominated niche now is filled with serps that have resorted to bought links not just forum profiles.

So yeah Ton loads of proof my SEO brother. Serps are full of them. this was the number one serp that was used to make the case ofr profile backlinks and now even those providers are going with bought and high PR links.

Truth is in really competitive serps where REAL businesses operate even when you already have High PR links even if you look for a bump with a few tens of thousands of garbage backlinks they aren't the kind of serps that it goes unnoiticed and unreported ala JC penney (which still very well had High PR links.)

So yes you can rank with some forum liinks for weak terms but no its no myth that high PR links are a good ranking factor (of course given the right anchor text) in many competitive . Thats pretty much total nonsense.

Serps are hot air only to people who don't understand SEO. Anyone can create a bunch of PR N/A and PR0 blogs , run article submission software etc and rank for weak terms. When you can rank for a real competitive term from a business willing to pay you good money to do so I will recognize your abilities until then you are just a WSO seller chiming in every thread to get more business based on testimonials that we all know can be manufactured.and mean nothing in regard to ranking where the real traffic is.

You couldn't rank page two in my SEO world with your PR of links doesn't matter SEO theories.

My offer and challenge to you from before stands. We agree on a TRULY competitive term and go head to head.

I know....... this is the point where you run away or start hand waving to avoid the challenge

You probably are already doing this, but just in case you're not... Make sure your resource is focusing his blog commenting efforts on blogs that don't have NOFOLLOW links.

Regarding the forum profile spam links, they are good for tier 2+ links, where you are using them more as a tool to create backlink depth and momentum. If you are feeding your site directly with the forum profile links, you need a ton to achieve good results and I would not recommend this approach for a beginner.

White hat SEO is definitely the only thing you should get into, however "whitehat" means something different for every different person.

Personally, I use the following techniques, some may say they are not quite whitehat because I am creating my own backlinks, but I have never been banned or received any penalties from Google for using these:

    -Article Marketing
    -Guest Posts
    -Blog Comments
    -Social Bookmarking
    -Forum Signatures

There are many other thing you can do but as long as you don't abuse mass-submission tools you should be safe.

    Cheers,
    Dave

Create links of different types -- without and without anchor text, different anchor text and pointed to different pages -- and from different sources. Just because you do it with software does not automatically infuse the hat with a certain color.

Strictly speaking in Google's eyes the only "white hat" technique is getting people to link to your site naturally. So then the answer is content, content, content.

Actually even if you're gray hatting it great content is still the way to go. Provide great content within your comments and you'll get increased traffic through people wanting to hear more about you. Provide great content in your articles and you'll actually see a CTR to your own site on sites like EZA and Squidoo, and so on.

Guest active a blog is a abundant way to get backlinks to your site, and body a acceptability for your website simultaneously. Every industry has blogs. These weblog owners like content. That is what keeps readers advancing to their sites. They don't consistently accept something to address about, nor do they consistently accept time. This is area you appear in.

Install the plugin for it in Firefox. Once you install and restart you can right click your mouse choose no follow and it will highlight all links on a page that are no follow with a pink background or bluish purple (on my monitor at least) as links that are followed.

Links must be permanent & static html. You agree to replace any links which are removed within 6 months after placement. Ought to be no ongoing cost to maintain links - one time they are on a site they stay there indefinitely. Pages must be indexed & cached by Google within last 30 days.

There has to be properly laid out page structures in every net site. Pages must be indexed coupled with appropriate titles. Individual pages must be properly subtitled with headers and footers. Walking a blog and enabling of site reviews by users can enhance personal interaction.

People think this does not work still. I can gurantee you this still works! Just get directory submissions as a Layer 1 of "white hat" links.

Thanks. Yea i just don't understand why people forget about directory submissions nowadays. Its like the number red flag for black hat link profiles. Meaning:
        Domain Link Profile:
-Profile links (i.e angela and paul)
        -Blog Comments
        -Article submissions
        -social bookmarks

Eveyone seems to forget directory links. =(
If you were a google manual review spam team...and found no directory links.. what would you do to that site?Just a thought.

    - Guest posting
    - Blog commenting
    - Buying one way high PR link (debatable, just dont get greedy and go rank for ULTRA keywords like "money" and get caught by google, or else it's SUPER effective)

These should be your priority rather than building Tier-2 backlinks (linkwheels)

Linkbaiting is certainly the most appropriate for google but also most difficult to you unless you have extremely valuable content everybody want link to.
I would suggest to organize your content according to keyword analysis - go for longtail. And then create contextual links from high quality sites to your specific pages.
      Good luck!

Link baiting is fine. However in order to get prople to link to your content 1- You need to have something people want to link to 2- People need to know that you have that special valuable content. This is why link baiting has never made sense to me for a brand new site.

I would say that the most white hat method would be press release distribution. This is something that all companies do and has actually nothing to do with SEO. The point of press release distribution is to get your name out there. You will obviously benefit from it SEOwise also.

The best white-hat methods in order from my experience are:

      1. Link bait - make infographics, they work great
      2. Guest blog posts
      3. Blog comments - added benefit of learning something as you go
      4. Article directories
      5. Squidoo lenses
