Infolinks vs. AdSense Test - Is this normal?

In an effort to 'AdSense-proof' my sites, I'm testing out few other ad networks.

I have an AdSense site which gets around $40 to $60 eCPM.

3 Days ago I signed up for Infolinks to test their network.

Today I logged into the Infolinks account and............
I see their eCPM is $0.82. I get about 0.01 and 0.02 clicks.


Is this normal? I was expecting at least $10 or $20 eCPM. Is the payouts with AdSense 50 times better?

Is it possible to optimise a site for Infolinks?

I was thinking about testing Kontera as well. But after this result, I might ditch that idea.

      Why do you feel the need to add infolinks or any other program to "adsense-proof" your sites? If your website is making money with adsense then leave it as is, there are no rules against sites just having adsense on them.

      In fact, adding another program to your site will most likely reduce your adsense earnings.

        The reason OP wants to "adsense proof" his site would most likely be because it's always a bad idea to have all eggs in one basket. If one day Google decides to change their TOS again and suddenly his sites don't comply anymore, he'll lose all his earnings within the blink of an eye. That's why it's a good idea to at least experiment with other networks to figure out alternatives.

        Unfortunately, Adsense is by far the best performing one out there so you can call yourself lucky if you even find something with an eCPM of $10.

          That's a lousy reason and full of a lot of stuff that people who come here and
          complain they got banned propagate. Why such paranoia is beyond me. Do
          bad things that google does not like, and yes, you should be paranoid. Some
          people, however, thoroughly read the rules and follow them. And they are not
          worried, nor spend sleepless nights just waiting for google to ban them.

          Google does not ban for no reason. Again, that is a myth propagated here.
          They clearly spell out the rules, clearly tell you not to read between the lines
          and break them.

          If they changed their TOS, which I can't remember them ever changing them
          for the negative, only the positive, they would give people ample time
          and warning to change. I can't remember them ever doing a global change
          where people had to suddenly change content. Not even the new algo change.
          The adsense TOS clearly states you MUST follow all google webmaster guidelines
          also. These have always included, a unique and useful experience for your visitors.

          The only reason to adsense proof your sites is if you are breaking the rules.
          But then, guess what? Infolinks has similar rules as google adsense. Just like all the
          rest that are worth a darn.

            Agree with that though didn't want to imply OP was doing that. Either way, it's never a good idea to have all your eggs in one basket. There are lots of other possibilities of an adsense account performing badly in a short period of time, and that doesn't necessarily have to do with getting the account banned.

            It has nothing to do with the account getting banned.

            I just want to diversify my sources of income. Since many large sites are using other ad networks, I though it would be better to at least try out few of them.

            And when you have multiple display networks competing for your impressions, you have the power to negotiate. (given that your sites are generating a significant amount of impressions)

            Paul,

            While I agree with you that there are tons of people here blowing this issue out of proportion... (and a good portion of those that do were cheating anyway) diversifying your revenue is NOT a bad idea. It would be MUCH better if there were real competitors to AdSense. Unfortunately, as was pointed out by others...it doesn't look like there's an equally viable alternative. There are plenty of others, but I haven't seen any positive results in comparison to AdSense.

            I've had some bad experiences when my revenue wasn't diversified...both in my online and offline business. Diversifying strengthens your revenue, keeping you from being SO dependent on any one stream, customer, etc.

    My idea is you should not use infolinks with adsense, its very annoying and decrease adsense earnings. Because a person who click on infolinks ad has 90% chance not to click on adsense ads
