Top of Google Myth?

As I'm just starting out, i was amazed that a hit the top spot in Google for one of my sites that I was playing with.

Then I noticed on the SEOPressor plug in site they advertise Google top spots for particular keywords...(I'm not discrediting Pressor, the plug in seems great!)

But you know it doesn't seem hard to get your site to hit the top for a string of keywords:

Like 'nicenewtrousers' instead of 'trousers' - but many advertisers, flippas etc trade on this...

But obviously 'nicenewtrousers' doesn't rank that high as a keyword...

What do people think of this? I'm coming at it as a complete beginner...

Well .... you already said it. Nice new trousers probably doesn't get searched for very much. It should be dead simple to rank for that keyword. Not much money in first place if no one is searching for it.
  • Yeah you're right - that was an extreme example, but my keywords aren't too bad - you know a searchable string...(not a string what is it - longtail?)

But is it bad practice to sell the worth of sites on this basis - I guess it's only as useful as it's key word rank - so again I answer my own question...
