i have a few websites ranking very well including a few number 1 rankings. I still consider myself very new when it comes to seo though, in fact i think im lucky.

my question is if you put quotes around the term and it comes up with 100,000,000 in theory that would be harder to rank for then something with 10,000. I get that, but how important is it really. I have been checking how many backlinks... the websites pr.... and the anchor text used in the backlink... isnt that basically more important then how many pages are competing?

to be honest i usually do check the backlinks and such like i said but i usually go with whats ranking in top 10.. ez means easy to beat... stuff like that

There are a lot of other factors to determine the strength of said competition, and from what I can tell you are already doing them,
in my opinion theres no need for you to were about this extra bit of information

it would just be slowing you down

i just tested and found allinanchor is more accurate than allintitle
allinanchor:abc keyword is the best to check the competition.

when using allintitle:"keywords", not to forget the quotation mark.

Allintitle and allinanchor are great for judging competition at a glance. I also like to take it to another level and not only use those numbers but use something I call RC (Real Competition). This is the number on the last page of results when doing any of those all in searches. You see Google will only display up to 1000 results for any query and normally returns much less. So if you get that number from the last page you are seeing how many results Google is saying is relevant. This number is almost always less the the estimated number on the first page of results. Just something to consider!

BTW this is my first step in finding keywords and then after I find good candidates I then look at what the top 10 competition for those keywords look like.
