  • Complete fairy tale. Completely illogical.

Microsoft's online endeavors are in a shambles.

  • That's a big assumption ...

It won't be that easy for Bing to take over. But having a shift in market share so that Google is less dominant would be a good thing.
  • I have just finished running a Bing campaign that was totally worthless. It is likely that I will never run another campaign with them again.

If my experience isn't unique, then Bing will never overtake Google.

    • Your experience is not unique, unfortunately.
  • I don't think so.It is never easy for bing to dominate Google for coming years. They should do more work on their search results algo and try to show relevant results for which visitor is exactly looking for.

    • hey lets chek through MICHAEL KORDAHI experiment about GOOGLE and BING.

  • That is excellent news if it actually happened. I highly doubt that use of Bing will overtake Google by next year but certainly can see it growing.

For the past six months I have been doing a grass roots campaign to encourage people (including my local business clients) to switch to Bing. It was pretty easy before because I could simply bring up Bing and Google in different browser tabs at the same time. Do a search for nearly anything and Google was filled with low quality sites... just a bunch of junk really. And besides the comparison, when I tell people to just Bing it they actually are intrigued by what that means exactly.

However, it is not so easy to illustrate the superior Bing results after the latest Google updates. Google is definitely cleaning out some of the junk but I still use Bing first and Google second only if I do not find what I am looking for on Bing.

I don't want any one search engine to have such a huge monopoly on online information as Google does. For that reason, I would definitely be happier to see Bing grabbing a much larger market share.

    • I too experience the same. Still there are people believe that the bing is old MSN and dont try at all. If you start using it, then we can realize how much bing is worth compared to spammy google results.

However, bing is no where near beating google in market share in the near future worldwide. I would be happy if bing has more than 30% world wide.
  • I think Bing is doing better then others but I have a product site and I get about 20% of the traffic from Bing. 10% from others. Google dominates product search... and organic search. They have a long way to go.
  • I think it is not possible. There have no chance for Bing to get the first place within 1 year. If Bing have magic ring then it may be hardly possible.
  • That's good news for bing, But the bad news is, people from almost all over the world are using Google. Where's U.S.?
  • Looks very unlikely in near future - unless bing guys do something revolutionary. Bing's reach and platform - both are far behind that of Google. There is a long way to go.
  • Where did you read the article from? As far as I know, bing has less than 10% of the search engine market share.
  • Can't see this happening...

  • Like paulgl said its' only in the dreamland, I still believe that Google is the best and it couldn't stop in giving it's best features as a search engine.

    • I got the article off a connection on linked in

I think Bing and Yahoo together are taking 30% in US
I dont think it is that in europe

I dont know if they will take over google next year but I would like to see more competition maybe 60/40
  • Didn't Bing sign an exclusive contract to be THE search provider for Facebook when they finally launch their built-in web search? I understand that you can technically do it now, but its not the first option to choose from when you do a search on Facebook.

So if Facebook launched that tomorrow, then yeah, Bing would overtake Google easily.

Lol, that Google/Bing chart has been around the block more times than a ice cream truck.
  • I am going to agree with the naysayers. Google is too powerful of a brand to be overtaken.

Hitwise is not a good source of statistical significance. The real data lies with the companies themselves.
  • I was just checking out some stats on one of my sites that I have forgotten about
SE traffic accounts for 62% of its traffic and Most of that (53%) is from Bing and Im on page 2 or low page 1 for most of the terms
