1,000,000+ pageviews but NO MONEY on AdSense.

Dear Warriors.

One of my good friends own the following website
The site is not in English, but it receives more than 1 million pageviews every single month. I would rather say that he is closer to 2 million than 1 million pageviews.

The problem here is that he does not create huge amounts of money through AdSense. The CTR is incredibly low.

My question is: How can he generate more clicks? He obviously has the users and pageviews, but the CTR is just way too low. Please.. Only comment on ad placement on his forum, and not the other parts of the site. I am talking about optimizing the forum ads.

Thank you warriors. And thank you moderator for moving the thread.

You would probably have a better response putting your post in this forum:
Adsense / PPC / SEO Discussion Forum

That aside, you might want to check out Tony Marriott's highly succesful WSO:
    http://www.warriorforum.com/warrior-...backlinks.html

Tony's not only very good at what he does but he's also very helpful so his placement techniques may be what your friend is looking for on his site & perhaps could benefit from.

If he TRULY is getting that much traffic, why not ditch AdSense and put up relevant affiliate ads? Makes much more sense.

He is TRULY getting that amount of traffic. The problem is that the market(Country) is not like the american market. There is no "affiliate" ads as we know it.

The content is the best, it is the largest community on its subject in that country. The small trick cannot be used here.

I'd try changing the colors of the adsense box first. Right now, it just fades into the background. If you want people to see those ads, they need to stick out a bit.

Also, if there aren't many products being sold in the country/language that could likely be a reason there aren't any clicks being generated. If readers are seeing ads in a different language, they aren't likely to click anything.

If your friend really wants to monetize his site, he should create a small fitness report to give away in exchange to build a list. Then create another small product to upsell, a membership option where he gives away monthly content, or a big ticket item. Preferably all of the above!

He'll have some difficulty finding products in his language, so whenever he finds something that he's interested in, he should approach the vendor that he has a list of XX amount of people and would like to promote the product, but that it would need to be translated first for best results.

Good points. But he does have a huge list 40k+ (his forum members) that he can mail whenever he wants. Is that not good enough?

That's good enough if he's mailing them often, and selling to them.

He's probably getting search engine traffic too who aren't signing up, but could be interested in a free report.

If he has an email list of 40,000... he should be making about $40,000 per month with it. If not, he should start learning about list building.

Though, I have not personally used it, I have read good things about the Adsense Revenue Blueprint course. This may be worth looking into.

You can check the reviews from the thread below.

i heard forums dont make much in terms of adsense. all you get are return visitors so they pretty much are immuned to the ads.

I'm thinking all those "non-Adsense image Ads" are playing a role in why your Adsense text Ads have a low CTR.

Remove the images around your Adsense-text Ads for about a week, If the Adsense CTR goes up, that's your problem.

Do the image Ads get any clicks?

Plus the fact that it's a forum, repeat traffic gets Ad blind after a while. You could always write a script that will change the location of the Ads for each page load/refresh (for testing).

It's a forum. They are notoriously lousy for CTR.

I second Yukon. Just put adsense if that's what you are trying to pump up.

Change the colors. Like someone said, they disappear. Maybe try
      image only ads.

Another problem is probably the fact that the ads you get to show
are going to be lousy. Comes with the territory of a forum, and
especially a forum in a language other than English.

You can ask him playing with some other monetization models. Like he can try adbrite, some CPA offers, clickbank/amazon offers or other affiliate offers. And it's critical that he improves the layout of the pages so that ads come first in bold prominent color - blue seems to work better - and then content.

Thank you all for the good tips. I will try to tell him that he needs to make the ads stand out.

I agree with those who says that Forums has very low CTR, because of returning visitors.

Tell him to change the color of the ads from, that gray color to the normal while color.

He needs to find a CPM Network

Let's say the going CPM Rate is around $0.30 - That's at least $300 gross revenue

Keep in mind Message Boards get terrible CTR so the CPM rate won't be more than $0.50

What your friend can do is seo optimize his/her blog or website to a particular niche. this way he can drive those "buyer" visitors who would most likely click on the ads by Google. I hope this helps.

P.S- Linking niche related directories help too.

You know how there is a photo of a mostly naked, muscular man at the top of the forum page? Replace it with a photo of a mostly naked, muscular woman. Better yet, two women. I get it that this is some kind of bodybuilder forum, but if you want to see what ads work, crack open a bodybuilder magazine. The best ads have beautiful bodybuilder women in tiny bikinis, hawking the latest nutritional supplements. Guys who read those mags and ads don't read them to look at photos of other guys. The photos of the muscle guys are just there to illustrate the techniques to build the muscles. The photos of the girls are the eye candy that sells the product.

Get the male viewers thinking about what it will take to jock on a hot gym cutie, and that will get them buying bottles of L-Argenine, or whatever else the bodybuilders are taking these days.
