  • Whatever the price may be, I know it would go for a lot more if you threw some AdSense blocks on it while selling official plushies/books/memorbilia for the games as an Amazon or other physical goods vendor affiliate...

It's worth the effort to knock out a site and get actual clicks/views/sales/etc.

Just that can add a zero or two to the final price tag...possibly even more if your traffic continues to climb over time.
  • Ya i'm thinking this domain is good enough to gain traffic and everything you said...

Just curious still...any estimations for the flat out domain?
  • I think it will get a high price if it met the right person.

    • That's what I figured, I'm sure I could get a decent amount on Flippa.com
I mean honestly it will be searched a lot when the time comes closer and it just has a lot of potential.

Sad thing is I'm not ready to make a website and start selling something on the site, I'm a newbie to all this money making online. I'm also 15 and dont have much experience.

  • I recommend you don't do ANYTHING with it but let it drop. This trademark is aggressively protected.

    • Wait do you mean there is a chance I can get sued for this domain or something? I dont know anything about that stuff. Should I sell it or what?

Gene is there anyway I can get in contact with you? I cannot send private messages yet.

  • Evidently, you don't like to do your own homework by going to Google and find out some info before asking questions.
Your prior postings show what I'm trying to get a cross.

  • If you are trying to make money flipping websites, you may want to study the forums here, find an expert and learn from them. As has been pointed out, research will save you a lot of time, hassle, frustration and keep you safe from lawsuits.

You are young, work with stuff within your age group-what other 15 yr. olds find interesting instead of going for such a domain. If it has that volume of searches for the keywords and is NOT taken already, that may be a hint that your in for trouble.

Trendy, generic domains will probably yield far better long term results, once you learn how to build a website.. Also, keep in mind that your age does mean that your guardians will be held responsible if you mess up.
  • Hi. I think also you should do some homework by yourself, do not only get the opinions here at the forum, do your google searches and find out all pros and cons. If you sear on google you will find a good answer. Regards,
  • Thanks everyone for your responses, so what should I do with the domain I really dont want trouble or to be sued so...should I cancel the domain if there is a way or what?
  • As Gene has pointed out you've bought a trademarked domain. Start using it and at best you'll get a cease and desist from the olympics lawyers but they could also sue you for cyber squatting if you try to make money with this domain. Be aware that could run into 6 figures.
So I'd let the domain drop and chalk it up to experience..better to lose a few bucks than your life savings!

  • for me this domain doesn't say anything much. If the domain name is olympics2012 it will worth much more.

And about the phrase "olympics of 2012" . It does get search 246,000 but it's not how much traffic you will get.

The [exact] search of the phrase "olympics of 2012" is <10 and you can check it at google adword tool (The exact search is the number of people who will type the phrase "olympics of 2012" in google)

I don't think you will sell this domain for a lot of money. Sorry about that
  • The only way to know how much you will sell off is to list it in the market.

Go for it, list in flippa and let the market tell you
  • now im kinda worried...i might just let the domain go..but how?

is there a way to unregister it or something?
    • [1] reply
    • As long as you don't build a site on it then nothing will happen.

      Steve
  • Thanks steve...so I had it registered for a year, so I just wait for it to expire?

and so I cant sell this anywhere or else I can get sued for cyber squatting?
    • [1] reply
    • Yes,just let it run out and move on,you don't need any legal hassles.

      Steve
  • this may be a trademark beware....
    • [1] reply
    • Yes it is trademarked by The olympics cooperation, I didnt even think about that when registering :/

  • Speaking of trademark protection, does anyone remember the MikeRoweSoft.com story?

Microsoft vs. MikeRoweSoft - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

    Scary!
  • ALWAYS check to see if a term that may be more than simply a "dictionary word" is in fact a trademark. Realtor, xerox, olympics and more are commonly used in discussion but are indeed trademarks that are constantly enforced. Such domains are far too risky to own.

Unfortunately, a recent popular WSO gives a case study of getting a trademark-infringing domain and luckily flipping it before it's taken away from them/they are sued. Just because they got lucky doesn't mean it can't happen to you.
