That is not the case with .EDU and .GOV links, unfortunately. Google does not treat those domains differently. And it's a fact.

As for the question: use 30% exact anchor text when building links

#1. I could give you 100k .edu/.gov links for free. Why? Because they are borderline useless.

HERE'S MY BEST TIPS

#1. If you want to rank like the pros. Watch the pros. Google highly, HIGHLY competitive buying keywords, analyze their backlinks. Boom...

#2. Stop asking rookies and straight up liars/idiots for tips.. I don't go on forums to listen to peoples opinions on things. I have my own "opinions". This forum, as great as a community it is, has turned into a circus of misinformation. If you want to learn to rank like a pro, read information from the pros.. AKA free blogs from people who have been in the game for YEARS and are NOT trying to sell you methods/e-books. Trust me, there's free information out there that VASTLY surpasses anything you would have to pay for.

It's a fine line about what he says that is TRUE and what he says that he wants us to THINK is true so we don't "take advantage of it".

Matt Cutts is the voice of Google... They are kind of like car salesmen... They might not be "lieing" to you but aren't "telling you the whole truth either"...

For most of what we would be doing exact match keyword domains are gold! I know this is true because I have a brand new site that is already on the first page of Google with basically just on page SEO and a few social bookmarks. This site is an exact match keyword domain...

Taking advantage of RSS feeds is a big plus too . . .

Right now, the best and easiest way to get on page 1 is to have an exact match domain name. Like a poster above said, this could change at some point, but until it does, it appears to be the most important factor.

I've had a site at #2 for months now and haven't touched it or backlinked it, but it is an exact match. Amazon ranks ahead of it but that's it.

This is very true and always the best way to look at what Google says.

Let me also add that they aren't beneath straight out lies. (I think at the Google-plex they call them wishes, but they deliver their wishes as if they were facts sometimes.)

Yeah, having keyword in the domain will helps a lot but my first tips for getting first page in google is:

UNIQUE CONTENT

I have few site which is never done anything special on SEO but still got first page and getting around 100 - 500 unique visitors a day. All of them is not even 3 months old yet

To get high rankings, use key phrases in their entirety.

Search engines makes extensive use of proximity and breaks every Web page it indexes into individual words. It then tracks where on the page the words are located in relation to each other.

Keep in mind though that though key phrase will get customers to your site it only good content and quality writing that will keep the customers from leaving.

Exact match domain names. I make a living selling them and there are never a shortage of savvy SEOs/developers buying them from us on a repeat basis, tells me they work and work well. That and if you look at search terms like credit cards, you see proof of it in action.

There is too much to mention in one thread lol. You will need to check out the Adsense/SEO forum for more details.

EMDs are one instant ranking advantage, but backlinks account for most of the reason why sites rank.

Onpage SEO does help, but it doesn't matter all that much.

Backlinks are what you need, they need to be goodl quality, related, diverse, and frequent.

Keep building them and keep checking your Google positions.

As long as your backlinks are good, you will keep rising.

finding a list of social bookmarking sites using command like "intitle". If you want to find a list of social bookmarking sites which have the same pages like phpdugg, follow this step:

Let's say you want to find a list of phpdugg-powered sites, type in the search bar of Google intitle: (without space)phpdugg "view all" and you will find a list of this sites.

The best way to reach #1 in Google is to just do what the website in the #1 position currently is doing, BETTER THAN THEM. Think about it, they're there for a reason (whatever it may be). Analyze the competition, and base your SEO (on and off page) and content creation around the basis that you're going to our rank them.
