Beating out eHow.com?

I am pretty sure I am not the only one irritated to see those endless eHow.com articles ranking at the top of the SERPS for every keyword combination imaginable, although you have to hand it to them for taking content farming to new extremes (and there is worse content out there than theirs).

But I have never taken on a keyword that had an eHow (or maybe WikiHow, or something similar) article in the top 10 - seems to me it should be pretty easy to beat out with a mini-niche/mini-authority site. What think you?

Only I was thinking of scraping the heck out of their keywords and seeing what I come up with, since they have done all the keyword research for us

  • P.S. What would it be worth if I scraped a few million of their keywords for Warriors ? Idea for a WSO, or a one-way ticket to a lawsuit?
  • It's very easy to find all their keywords, I take it you never heard of semrush.com or similar services... I have the paid version which I often use to "scrape" big article websites like ehow to find new niche ideas. I did a video post on that on my blog today if you are interested but the basics are that semrush will tell you all the keywords that a website ranks for .

    • Thanks for the heads-up. There are so many tools out there I lose track of them all. I see you have to pay for any meaningful reports (i.e. more than a few keywords).

      I just wrote a little script to theoretically extract ALL of eHow's keywords (I grabbed 30,000 just to test), which you can paste into GKWT and obviously get all the search volume etc. Might be a good option for us cheapskates

      I am amazed at the relatively low search volume and CPC of most of these! Here's a random sample for anyone who has not done this kind of analysis on a site like eHow. It's a volume game, pure and simple:
