If my competitors were to do this to me...

I've been thinking about the new Google algorithm update & its focus being on sites with duplicate content.

Sites that copy content from other sites are now losing rankings as Google is looking for sites with unique content.

So what would happen if my competitors were to copy the main article on my home page & submit it to thousands of article directories & blog networks?

Wouldn't this cause my site to drop in ranking as the content is no longer unique?

You are in error. But then, you are not alone. I assume
you have just been reading the wrong people. Sadly, many
of the threads here that are just full of misinformation.

Google is not looking for sites with duplicate content.
They are not looking to penalize them.

What you describe makes logical sense that it WON'T happen.

    Relax.

Any duplicate content that gets any penalty, and any penalty is
rare, actually, is penalized because the content was used to
shmooze search engines across either one domain, or several.

Not even close to what you describe.

Thanks for clearing that thought up for me, I've obviously not fully understood the articles I've been reading about this update lately.
