Finding links in Google

If I want to pull up my links count in Google, isn't the command links:mysite.com?

I did this and it said 65,800 results in (0.15 seconds).

This seems like a hell of a lot of links, and I can't believe I have done that many. In fact, I know for sure I haven't posted that many links. So did I do the command wrong?

    Google won't show you anything worthwhile in the SERPs, when it comes to links (link:domain.com).

    Yes the accurate link: command is to be used. Another issue is trying to use websites with or without www segment, this can become a major issue when links are coming from different sources, some of them to http:// part of homepages.

    Of course as you may guess, in either case Google will only offer information about a few of incoming links pointing at your website and for having a better idea, try using Yahoo Site Explorer and your Google Webmaster Tools panel.

    "links:URL" does nothing; you're looking for "link:URL" to check your backlinks from Google's perspective. However, also check them using other tools (Yahoo Site Explorer, for example) to get a more accurate view of yourbacklink profile.
