Why Did My Website Get Sanboxed?.....

Hi Warriors,

I have a website which is about a month old. I built a few backlinks with article submissions here and there and was ranking on page 3 of google for my keyword. My keyword is exactually the same as my domain name which helps.

Recently i just purchased here on the warrior forum 250 high quality backlinks, which the webmaster also pinged for me. Next thing i know i'm nowhere to be seen on google, not even on page 30+

My site is still indexed on google but its not ranked at all?...
Has anyone had any experience with this? What do you think has happend?

I'm so pissed off about this!!

It is called the google dance. However, your 250 high quality links, probably aren't all that high quality.

your dancing, put some shoes on, make sure they have some tappers on the bottom of them and now wait for those 250 links to land your site somewhere.

The sandbox, dance, I hate google, reevaluation, whatever you want to call it is just google trying to understand your links.

In the mean time build more links

Don't make hundreds of links within just a few days... else, you are in the borderline of being banned. It's not worth it. Take time... make your link building looks natural.

This is terrible advice. You do realize that Google is NOT going to find all of those hundreds of links as soon as you build them right? You will NOT get banned for building hundreds (even thousands) of links in a few days simply because its going to take Google half a century (exaggeration) to find them all.

Focus on finding good quality links. This means relevant and preferably within content itself. Also use anchor text. Once you find a source of quality links start building like a madman.

        That's true Blogging Pro!

Can you recommend where to get hold of some quality links?
There are many webmasters on here who claim to get good links, but how do we really know for sure?

Still indexed and being visited by google though so its time for a period of dancing.

Just keep building, just keep building, just keep building

The fact that he had a page 3 rank, and then after 250 links was off page 3 is somewhat worrisome and makes me wonder if there is a specific number of links that triggers this "reevaluation"... If he had put just 1 link would that have happened? 2? 4? 50? There must be some magic number that triggers this reevaluation, otherwise at the very worst, he would have remained on page 3, or thereabouts.

Is it possible you just got slapped by the Panda?

From my understanding of reading so many people's experiences, they say it's this when it comes to Google Sandbox (aka page 1000+ ranking or Supplemental Index of Hell)

    - the number 1 cause for Sandbox is too many backlinks at once
(and yes, I have experienced the Sandbox lately for one of my extremely whitehat authority sites. Funny thing, the backlinks were very whitehat too)

    - chances are, it will stay in the Sandbox for a few months. That's the usual duration

    - it can rise back to 1st page ranking (or original ranking), but it will take months

    - provided you constantly backlink to your site as usual

    - sometimes, when you do nothing, it'll still come back to its original rankings

    - most of the time, when you continue backlinking, your site / pages will actually get better rankings when they come back

    - Sandbox tends to affect new sites, which is why people buy aged domains / sites whenever they want to start a site

How to check whether your site is deindexed?

Type site:warrriorforum.com into Google if your site is warriorforum.com
(If you see listings, this means your site is NOT deindexed)

If your site is still indexed in Google but the rankings have plummeted (most obvious through the sudden drop in traffic), then you are in the Sandbox.

      Thanks calfred,

my site is still indexed with google, just nowhere to be seen. Looks like ive been sanboxed.

Regarding building backlinks...from your experience what would be your limit for building backlinks each week? 100? 500? 100?...

      Tricky question i guess.

You have to give it time. There are million other threads here that people are complaining about sandbox.

The sandbox confuses me... I guess that's b/c I've never experienced it...

I had over 3k links INDEXED (according to Y! Site Explorer) in less a week of one of sites being live... The domain was fresh created/bought by me and didn't have any pre-existing backlinks... I think I built roughly 5k backlinks a day for a week... This was when I was just starting out and didn't really know that this was bad...

Anyways to make a long story short nothing ever happened and it happily made it's way to page one where it belonged and now sits! :p

My opinions are generated from my experience ranking new sites... I'm pretty aggressive with my backlink building, both manually and automated. Maybe 200-1000 per day for a couple of weeks... Then I stop and let it sit. I find a lot of times my site will be sitting somewhere on page 3 to 6 then bounce to page 10-30 or completely fall off the map...

But wait... Wait... Wait for it... A couple days later my site would pop back up further then where it was before. Do the backlink thing again, maybe optimize my On-site content, then wait - Fall off the map - Bounce back higher - Continue to number one!

Anyways, I've experienced this exact process for, I think, 8 different sites?! The
GOOGLE DANCE used to get my panties all up in a bunch but I'm past that now b/c when the site bounces back (which it always does) I know it will be ranking higher then where it was before, and the dance will continue until you quit aggressively building backlinks.

If you don't bounce back in a timely manner - submit a Site Reconsideration in your Google Webmaster Tools... I've had to before and it actually helped quite a bit.

A site that is ONE MONTH OLD is EXTREMELY young... One of my sites danced for 3 1/2 months before it began to settle... The whole time the site would rank decently then drop to page 10-30 then rank then drop off the frickin map!

Keep doing what you're doing. Don't let it upset or frighten you. You aren't special!! What you're experiencing is normal! :p Keep building backlinks... Tweak your on-site optimization if you want to. Submit some artilces, feeds, comments, press releases, create blogspots and make more backlinks! You get the point.

In a couple days check your rankings for your targeted keywords. If you don't bounce back in two week do a "Site Reconsideration" through your Google Webmaster tools account... You better have one of those!

          Then report back!

The general consensus among SEO professionals is that there is no such thing as the Google Sandbox, but that there is something called the Honeymoon effect where a new site or page is given a chance to rank by Google and thus gather the needed backlinks to keep it ranking. Otherwise new content could never get natural backlinks if no one ever found it.

I've been making a FAQ for these sorts of ranking drops here. Check out the section on the Honeymoon effect:

Like you said, I'll just wait and see what happens and hopefully this site will bounce back. I guess it happens to all of us at some time?
