Tags in Wordpress

i have been working on some wordpress blogs of mine since January. i have been using the All-in-One SEO. on every post of mine, i add whatever keywords are relevant to that post in the All In One SEO.

however i have been staring at "tags" on my post editors and don't know how to use this feature. do i still need to add tags to a post if i am already adding keywords to the All-In-One SEO plugin?

what tags should i include if a post is about whynter wine cooler?

  • You don't need to put to many in there,just your targeting keywords for that post
    whynter
    wine cooler
    whynter cooler

    and any other keyword your targeting.

  • Categories and tags are WordPress' filing system. They're the way you can file and keep related articles together and, as such, help both people and the search engines to find their way around your site.

    • I have gone through your extremely useful WordPress Blogging for Newbies tutorial. I am setting up WP sites and found your resource very useful, thanks.

      I am unable to find a solution for one of the issues I am facing. I have structured my site a bit differently. Each post is categorized and tagged. The tags are universal to all the categories i.e. let say my categories are A to D and my tags are from 1 to 6. Each category may use these tags depending upon the post.

      I am displaying respective posts for each category under each menu item. So far so good. Here is my problem :-

      A I don't know how to display posts with common tags at one place. Other than creating additional categories and marking each post for 2 different categories.

      B If I display, and then I am creating duplicate content. The only method I can think is to mark one of the page/url as noindex but then I am loosing the SEO juice for that url/page.

      I will appreciate your guidance and help.

  • Only if there is a valid reason to do so... for example your Blog uses a Tag Cloud to help people find things, or you are using a plugin that crawls tags to display some other kind of content.

    If you write correctly you don't even need to put them in All in One SEO. Google crawls content and largely ignores the other information (at least that is what they claim). But there is nothing as useful as testing.
