How do you find best searched and most paid keywords before you start your website to catch traffic from search engine?

    Use google keyword tool with the exact match selected and then check the competition on google by typing your phrase with " at the start and end to see how many competing pages there are. Think i got a video on my blog somewhere explaining it

      Not everybody will type what you type as there are many search terms for a given phrase/specific area of intrest

        Indeed, I agree, but you need to think about the long longtails as well. Just relying on any old keyword tool will get you so far. I'd be thinking about the other words involved in the search. Town keywords are pertinent in many searches - automotive, for example. People might not be looking for 'used cars under $5000', they'll probably be looking for 'used cars under $5000 in X' (X being your local town/city). Stick 'best' at the front of a keyword term or 'most popular' - they will find many other searchers that are in buying mode because they are looking for reviews or comparisons.

          Use the google keyword tool and the free version of traffic travis to get competition analysis of the top 10 in google for the keyword you're searching.

          Check the exact match box in the google keyword tool and see how the top 10 competitors rank with seo in traffic travis....this is a free way to show you how easy/difficult it is to rank for that keyword

          or you could just buy them from warriors

            The 'exact match' trick limits thousands of potential marketers. I understand it is a sound principle if you live your life in the world of 'exact match'. Many of us don't.

          First find the highest paying keywords by searching google: "highest paying keywords adsense" or any PPC engine. This will provide a list of vendors who have already done the research on highest paying keywords. Alternatively, you can also slog through the google keyword tool.

          This will give you an idea of the top markets, as those who are consistently paying for PPC ads have already done the research for the most lucrative products to sell.

          Hint: the highest paying keyword is "mesothelioma", which is one example indicating the amount of money that can be made in this niche alone. You can compete in these niches by using long tail keywords, article marketing and other traffic generation and backlinking methods.

      You'll need to use google adwords keyword tool for the basics. You can scrape these results quicker with tools like Market Samurai. Just remember, these tools are not infallible. They'll often lead you down a false road. That's why I talked about using your head about what or how would YOU search for that.

      You also need to learn about 'phrase' 'broad' 'exact' if you're going to use these tools. This is fundamental imo.

    Im not sure keyword research can be explained in a single post within a forum.......and no doubt you'll have everyone here giving you varying opinions and quite possibly horrible advice.

    Having said that....

    If you know nothing about keyword research, invest some time towards it and educate yourself. You will be COMPLETELY WASTING YOUR TIME, if you dont understand the fundamentals and importance of this step.

    Keyword research lays the foundation for any project and is VITAL to success.

      You really can't. The only way you can approximate is by setting up a PPC campaign and bidding really high so that your ad shows up the majority of the time. The number of impressions will then tell you the approximate number of searches. I say approximate, because no matter what you bid, you can't guarantee that your ad is displayed. That is entirely up to the ad platform.

      I can't find the reference now, but if I remember correctly, at one point google had stated that 50% of the search terms used were unique i.e. never been used at all. So while the keyword tools will give you historical data, you will be losing out on a lot of potential traffic if that is the only thing you rely on.
