My site lost ranking... The Google Dance?

Hello guys.

Well to start off I been doing some seo and stuff.

My site went from page 6 and then to page 4

And now when I check the pages, my site isnt listed anymore on the ranks where it formally used to be.

I got paranoid and thought maybe I may be deindexed but I typed my website name and it does show up on google so I am not deindexed......(or am I)?

My site has lost its ranks for 2 days now. Could this be the google dance?

I think a lot of sites are going through this now in Google, they are mixing things up in their results,I also have two sites doing this at the moment, try going to the end of the results, you will probably find your site there just like the 2 I mentioned, they are both on page 56,before they were on page one for over a year.
    Fun times

I wouldn't call that sandboxed then, that's completely normal and most sites go through this at the beginning, you will have to build backlinks to your site slow and steady, just make it look natural and you will move back up.

Yeah, I was ranking at number 7 for both my main keywords for about a month and then all of a sudden a few days ago I shot back to about 55. The past 4 days my sites just danced around between 30 & 60.

When people say it's common for new sites, how new are they talking?

My site is about 5 months old.

It's kind of annoying when it happens to your very first site. I thought my hard work had finally paid off. I was making regular sales after months of nothing and now it seems like I have to keep building links just to get back where I was.

Same here man. I have a site thats 1 year old, and has gone through this dance about 4 times in the past 4 months or so. Usually it springs back to life after anywhere between 2 - 10 days for me, and its been about 10 days so far. No luck yet.

Whats even more frustrating is I have 600 word blog posts where I'm practically the only person in the world that talks about the topic, and I rank on page 15.

Ive said it before and I'll say it again. The key to this game is diversity, both in websites, traffic sources, and income sources.

Good luck, hope you bounce back.

Its not the Google dance. Its the latest "farm update" of Google that started somewhere in February. I've got an authority blog (3 years old) with more than 200 unique content posts and it got slapped big. I had several of my posts on positions 1 to 5 of google and now they got dropped to 40-60 etc. I'm starting to think that SEO is too hard and unreliable. paid traffic might be the solution

    Its normal
I was working for a site which was on spot 7 on week 1.
Week 3, it goes to spot 11 (Yep, page 2)
Week 4 (The next day after week 3), it comes to spot 6
3 days later its on spot 5.

Don't panic, continue what you are doing and make sure what you are doing is ethical
Else its not just G dance.

I am super upset right now. I had numerous articles on page one and two of google and now they show (on serp checker) that they're not even in the first 100 page. WTF??? My highest traffic articles have TANKED. Right at the beginning of gardening season, no less. I'm seriously going to be sick.

The best way to see if you've been de-indexed is by doing a site:domainname.com or site:domainname.com/pagethatsdisappeared search in Google.

You'd have to have done something pretty stupid to get de-indexed though. So long as your content was original and and not crappy spun stuff, it's probably just Google doing something silly.

I'm not de-indexed at all. But all of my pages that were ranked above 100 (many on page 1 and 2) are no longer in the top 100. I was just finally seeing Amazon purchases and Adsense Clicks and I've been writing original content (that's all that's on my site - stuff I've written, and I'm a pretty good writer!) like crazy - I'm up over 50 posts since February and the site is over a year old. I just don't get it. Panda was supposed to tank sh!t sites. Mine is not that site. I've followed every Google rule, built my backlinks manually on pertinent sites with quality comments, and I'm just beside myself. I am praying this is a temporary blip because my site is pretty seasonal and the season is now underway. Grrrr....Gonna go check out the webmaster forums and see if someone can tell me what I did wrong.

          That happened to me.

My site was new, and with all the backlinks I sent to it, I was on the 4th page. Then I started slipping, eventually going to the 13th page. But I still kept sending links and I think it reached the 7th page before I stopped sending links (I started a new site for the same niche, so I no longer cared for it).

Just keep at it. Fortunately I knew about this from reading the forum, so I didn't feel that bad that it happened.

I don't think this is just "new" sites that affected. On G's Webmaster Forum, there is story after story of people with OLD sites that had 1st and 2nd position that are dropped off the bottom of the SERPs. I'm going to keep plugging away at it because I love my site, but this is so disheartening.

My site is two years old and I was ranking in the 20's for several additional keywords I have been working on. All of a sudden on Friday all 4 of them started going nuts, jumping to pos 50, then to 70 and now not even in the top 100. It is scary when you realize that your income is at the mercy of Google. Luckily my two main keywords are not moving.

Google dances are normally happening to newly launched websites, the ones within their 6 months of operating online, but may occur to older domains as well. Some ideas may seem to be useful to note like how aggressively you have been building links for your domain? Does your website contain anything useful, like original materials or the number of pages are limited and most contents have been copied from other sources?

Have you very recently participated in reciprocal link building schemes or not? Sometimes if your website links to bad neighborhood, some temporary rankings drops might be experienced and as soon as they are removed, the older ranks would be gained anew.

It can take several months to a year before your site settles into rankings. My primary (personal) website only just stabilized in rankings and is hovering at about #5. For a while, it jumped between 12 and 50.

This is very normal especially for websites that are relatively new in Googles eyes i.e. a couple of years old.
Whenever you make significant changes to to a page whether it be on page or off you will usually see your site bounce around in position for a few days or weeks.
As long as you keep your steady building of links going on you will almost certainly settle in a much higher position than you started out.
